I was looking for some info on my birds car and came across this thread. For all that moan about PH and their owners, just check this out.

There must have been previous by the OP. That said, he was only after some info on his car, which is what these owners clubs/forums are there for isnt it?

TBH you tend to see that a lot on marque/model specific forums. I've come across it a number of times. Just because a new person comes along and asks a question that has been asked before, all the regulars have a tantrum.

One reason I tend to avoid them these days apart from browsing.

Bugger me that's insane! It can't be an American thing though - I'm a member of the MG Experience forums and the people there (mostly from the US) are some of the most helpful, knowledgeable and generous I've ever come across on teh internetz.

Troll that Yaris forum by asking how to do loads of 'complex' jobs like rebuilding the top end?

Another new guy mentions how the treatment of the OP was out of order and they flame him as well saying he's not worthy. I think this sort of behaviour is disgusting no matter what the subject, but these idiots are talking about a toyota yaris. My OH has one and I feel embarrassed when I drive it and people see me getting out of it. Certainly not something to be precious over.
I'm glad this place isn't as bad as there anyway smile

It's NOT an "American thing"- and suggesting that itself just shows narrowminded English ignorance.
I think it's actually a 'buying a small Jap-econobox-thing'. Shows a narrow vision with zero imagination. I mean the guy goes on about supporting America and the economy and drives a fricken Toyota Yaris.
I have half a mind to go on there as a troll!

So one of your forum goers came over to us saying this:

silly prats..... what makes you think i am the banned "OP" ?
try to get away from the keyboard more and see there is a real world outside your bedrooms
Just happened to see a link about this forum on a far superior forum. Those members that took such offense should be warned about been forum nazis

jesus..your driving a fking woman's car that is made by the Japs. So to hell with your "USA" school of thought .

Pop over to here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...3F+USA+USA+...

and see what real men have to say about some of you

Apparently I'm to come here to converse with real men. Okay, so. I come bearing a flag of truce, not that any fighting's broken out, but to try to contain the fire before it spreads. The problem with the original quoted thread is yes, members are sick and tired of answering questions that can be found on one's own. However, a few members acting negatively to a question doesn't mean that there isn't a score f others who glance over the topic and think "I don't know the answer to that, I hope somebody else does"- thus the only people whose input shows are the ones who get angry at the noob. I am going to say for a certainty that ALL forums have this phenomenon, but that most of us don't choose to see it because you by default and nature turn a blind eye to what your fellow forum'ers are doing.

So to the OP of that thread, that I've quoted from, great. You pointed out some of the worst in us. Bravo, you've had your laugh over here. But guess what?

This is not a great way to be constructive. Not to mention when I tried to register just now I had a warning "new members can't post because too many people have abused the privilege". Perhaps because people have been incited to come here? I'm going to just leave it at that. Just pointing out that not everybody on our forums are "American", or "British Rednecks", or "Japs". And out of those there isn't a blanket statement to class everybody as unhelpful or disrespectful. So, please, respect.

Fellow YW member has asked for this post to be put here for your viewing pleasure:

well, they have a point, to a complete outsider, that thread is pretty awful... urs, if you must know, the recipient of the abuse in question was a pain in the ass member who would do everything in his power to ask idiotic questions and rile up members against him, causing a really bad atmosphere in here at times. At first we humored him, answered his questions diligently accurately, and he would just ignore any replies and keep repeating the same things over and over. Some of his concerns were so inane, such as wanting a metal dipstick, as our stock plastic ones are somehow not good enough. Or bragging about changing his oil every 1000 miles. Or wanting to put wings on his car so it would fly when it hit a bump, thus saving fuel. Another good one was buying one of those transmitters on ambulances and fire engines, so he'd never have to stop at a green life again... And he'd keep coming back under different accounts, commenting on his own threads. I'm sure your forum has had some obnoxious members like this over time? We had absolutely no way to permanently ban him, he's come back posting from a different IP address, until one day he must have gotten bored and stopped posting.

YarisWorld is now a much better place, if you took the time to stick around you'd see we're all really a decent bunch!

PS please do us a favor and copy what I've written up there to your forum.

Oh, and you seem like a cool guy. Welcome to PH smile Most of us are sensible enough to know that thread isn't necessarily representative of your forum so don't worry about that smile

At least thatotherguy seems mature, I can see how people could misjudge the entire forum because of that one thread.

There is still nothing worse out there than the Saxo forum. hehe
