If I could afford one, I most definitely would have one.

Just brilliant. Best of both worlds, wouldn't bother with the coupe.

Imagine going for a blast around Europe in one.

If I could afford one, I'd still buy a pre-owned Porsche Carrera GT. Top, no top. Just about the finest car ever built. And they didn't have to adjust the exhaust for when the top comes off I'll bet.

It's those butresses that will make or break it for me. I remember I didn't really like it on the earlier photos from some angles. Also not keen in the engine cooling slats, it looks like a design after thought.

The coupe looks a lot better to me, they've ruined it's gorgeous lines with this.

And I am not a fan of metal folding roofs, if it's a convertible, give it a fabric roof, they just look right.

Sadly, today, I imagine one of the arguments in favour of a hard-top convertible is the soft top being vulnerable to attack, as are its occupants when driven with the top down anywhere near the disaffected, envious or feckless. This is nevertheless a beautiful piece of auto-design from every viewpoint, in my humble opinion. I want one and hope that the windows will not start rattling above 60mph when I can finally pull onto the motorway and let the roof down.

They look right until someone gets a stanley knife and converts your rag top into a permanent convertible... Speaking from personal experience here....

The design school knocked off early again still at least they painted it red so you know it's a Ferrari. But to be honest it just looks like every other car Ferrari produce these days. OK if you like that sort of thing, to me they are just bland. They obviously don't have to try too hard to sell stuff though so hats off to the marketeers; cars, annoracks, polo shirts, umbrellas they can flog it as fast as they make it.

+1. Somehow the trailing end of the side windows in the fixed top make it seem so much more elegant, as opposed to the rather abrupt end at the trailing edge of the door in the convertible. Still a nice car though.

Why no pics with the roof closed? It is that bad?

Personally I love the look of this version. After owning a convertible (although a hell of a lot less exciting than a 458...) I now see the attraction: purely better to here the engine noise.

Nah.

Mclarens aren't for posing in (and the SLR isn't exactly 100% Mclaren, nor in the same market segment).

This is my new "when I grow up, I want one car!". The drag is I used to think, "hmmm, I've got enough equity in the house to get one...." New house purchase has put paid to that.. Back to hankering after a nice used 997 C4S.

Still, the joy of one of these is if you could afford one it would be just in your garage lined up next to all that other exotica.
