Nope.. Not for me. It's just too technically good. The M5 has gone a good few steps too far into hugeness.

Played around with the configurator for the M5 the other day and it is comparatively good value due to the kit that is standard. If you spec up an M5 with all the toys and then do the same to the 640d the M5 is cheaper as more of the toys (such as HUD) are standard whereas they are not on the 6.

Another nice one from Chris Harris on Twitter: Can someone tell me what 2 car combo beats this? New M5 and Harris' own GT3 RS 4.0. Git. edit: Just noticed he's parked the 4.0 in a disabled space - one can only assume it just for taking the photo....

STiG911 said: It's hard to get past the fact that the '5 is now unbelievably fugly. The last model was a lot more 'Hyperformance in a Sharp Suit' This one is just, well, not. I can't think of a marque in recent years that has caused such debate on styling matters as BMW. I don't like the styling (since bangle started the "revolution")of any BMW in recent times. Sad, because in years gone by, you would never have heard anyone saying that a BMW was ugly!! This F10 model, whilst I'm not drooling at it's styling, is better than the last one IMHO! I'm sure this M5 will be a success for all the right reasons, but for this money, the Interior is the biggest let down for me.

Agreed. And in the context of the modern world, the E28 and 288 are vastly inferior. I would say an M5 Touring would be the only way to top that duo.

Are all new factors to consider that were previously absent
A 5.0 litre NA V8 would have been better. I agree. That engine bay looks really tight maintenance and repair costs are going to be market leaders when these things are out of warranty, there is just so much to go wrong, and the extra heat will surely accelerate this. A buyer from new will not care, as all repairs under warranty. However a 2nd hand buyer out of warranty, Im not sure I would want to take that risk. The Merc E63, on the face of it is a much simpler (and likely) reliable prospect. With similar performance and a better soundtrack (I expect). The 5lt V8 would be nice, but tuned to the same power (without ever being able to achieve similar Toque) it would have an MPG close to the V10.

Not the best parking job & has someone parked in disabled? According to PH it sounds like Mercedes/Audi are making better drivers cars than the BMW. I'd probably go for the M5 with the V10. I love a V10.

Minor point but I thought that the ring taxis were now going to be M3s? http://www.egmcartech.com/2011/06/09/the-ring-taxi...Something Herr Pogel would surely have known? So disappointing to have corporate utter BS seeping into every corner of a company... Why is it that no-one is embarrassed any more about lying to their customers?

With a similar budget and buying new, I would opt for: The new Exige S (V6) and a Jag XJ Supersport Or Ultima GTR 720 and Range Rover Or Morgan Aero 8 and AM Rapide

It will be a flop. Everyone will mourn the V10 M5 and M6 and used prices of those will rocket...
