I had an S1 Rallye back in 1999. I bloody loved it, The handling was a delight as was the power delivery from the 1294cc, the timing stats for this car didn't do any justice as to what it actually felt like.
I've had many faster cars since but none have matched the raw excitement this car offered. I need one in my life again... May be it's one of those cars you should never go back to - in fear of ruining the memory!

Your probably right mate.. i cad a citroen ax GT500, which I believe has the same engine as the 106.. it felt so fast and pulled strong, I have never seen another GT500 for sale, but if i did i would be hesitant to buy again for fear of realising its not as good as i thought back then.I had an S1 Rallye back in 1999. ....Lies, damn lies and then statistics...IMO timing stats mean nothing to the actual feel of the speed...The 'Fastest' i've ever been was 60 MPH sitting on the fuel tank on a 19Ft Ring speedboat with a 250 Merc on the back...the 'Slowest' i've been is 185 MPH in a bullet train....thats why little raw cars like this are so great and such a dying breed....I had an S1 Rallye back in 1999. I did my first trackday in one of these, only got about 10 minutes of driving before the clutch died but my goodness, it left an impression.
On A048 cut slicks the feedback from the chassis was mental. You could put it into a corner too quickly and play about with the throttle to bring it back together, I'm no saying this to make myself sound like a hero, it was my first trackday, I didn't even have my own car then and I was pretty clueless however the Rallye just made it all so easy.
One of these with a set of cut slicks would be about the best shopping car I can think of.
(and please don't shove a 16 valve lump in it - it misses the whole point)
