I had an S1 Rallye back in 1999. I bloody loved it, The handling was a delight as was the power delivery from the 1294cc, the timing stats for this car didn't do any justice as to what it actually felt like.
I've had many faster cars since but none have matched the raw excitement this car offered. I need one in my life again... May be it's one of those cars you should never go back to - in fear of ruining the memory!

Do I remember rightly from some production figures I saw back in the day that Pug sold fewer black S1's than the red and white ones?

Your probably right mate.. i cad a citroen ax GT500, which I believe has the same engine as the 106.. it felt so fast and pulled strong, I have never seen another GT500 for sale, but if i did i would be hesitant to buy again for fear of realising its not as good as i thought back then.

I had a 106 XM or XN (can't remember which) but always wanted it to be one of these.
Was a great little car and look cool enough!

Brilliant little car. Loads of fun.
I'd have one in a heartbeat if I weren't limited to 1 car only.

I did my first trackday in one of these, only got about 10 minutes of driving before the clutch died but my goodness, it left an impression.
On A048 cut slicks the feedback from the chassis was mental. You could put it into a corner too quickly and play about with the throttle to bring it back together, I'm no saying this to make myself sound like a hero, it was my first trackday, I didn't even have my own car then and I was pretty clueless however the Rallye just made it all so easy.
One of these with a set of cut slicks would be about the best shopping car I can think of.
(and please don't shove a 16 valve lump in it - it misses the whole point)

I had a 205 Rallye in yellow...loads of fun, handled like it was on rails, and no matter what the trip was you had to drive it hard

Me and a friend are looking to building a hillclimb car, would something like this be good in the <1400cc NA classes considering we've never done any motorsport before?

I had a black one with the decals removed. It must be 10 years since I sold it and I still miss it.
The handling was amazing but watch out for the lift of over steer.

These things with 16v gti engine swap are crazy. Some people are against it but I could list a few quick cars that me and my mate have given a good run! Starting with a seat Leon cupra R. Such fun little motors if treated right!

I'd really like a go in one of these.
My friend had a 106 XSI and that was a superb little car, thats the only time i've been in an old 106. Nice shed, and much fun to be had in it.

"cam belt head gasket and clutch done by last owner no proof of work"
So it'd be very safe to assume that the cambelt has never been done.
