That's the problem with the ring... you need to show it so much respect frown

I've been round there several times, luckily on quiet dry summer evenings and never had any problems. It's only afterwards that you think about the insurance aspect, and what exactly you would do if you hit some random piece of exotica or wiped out a few sections of armco... scary.
This is precisely what puts me off goign there. Minor mistake, unintended consequences... £££

I've seen this kind of thing several times at the 'ring. It's the accidents involving bikes that really turn my stomach.

Jalopnik, hardly the most reliable site for such news.

Mixing bikes and cars is a no-no. Don't know if they still do it though

But the police report ought to be reliable...

I'm a bit confused, they were making repairs to the track/road yet still drivers where allowed unrestricted access?

Firstly, I hope the person who is in hospital is recovering well.

What surprises me about this story, and obviously much at this time is conjecture, is that if there was ongoing maintenance at this part of the circuit why the RingTaxi was not fully aware of this and still travelling at the speed it was in the run up to the zone? I would have thought that as a professional employee working on the circuit the driver would be 100% up to speed on the ongoing work and have adjusted their speed further in advance of the area?

Exactly - Session running while thisis being done - sound Mad.

Just another reason I can see myself doing this sort of thing. The Ring is a race track (end of) in my book, if daft enough to take a car on there with no insurance more fool you.

And why would the police fabricate details of an accident at a track day? Maybe save the conspiracy theories for a different thread?

Which brings up the hoary point of where to get insurance from, but that's for another thread.

Technically it's a toll road.

Oh i see, you're one of those types...... Well having spent a st load of time there, & seeing many accidents, including fatal accidents. I can tell you without a doubt, that when the police turn up. Drivers will not be fully upfront with the truth. But hey, you carry on in your naive little world where you believe what you're told to believe.

as long as it's a tourist day a number of policies will cover you, if it's a track day you'll need to get specialist insurance

been to the ring three times and had lots of fun, however, I treat it as a public road as my bag of talent will run out far sooner than the absolute limits of the car

So technically if there are road works on the autobahn what would happen? We know it's a toll road the point is repair work should obviously lead to restricted access or reduced speed zones..I would of thought that was common sense

Remember, the Nurburgring claims on average 12 deaths a year. Usually the 'ring gets closed several times a day for clean ups etc. This is only news due to the cars involved. As i said, you'd see far bigger accidents than this on a regular basis.

Cover is not a problem, it's covered by law on your existing policy under European cover. It is the difficult problem of ensuring the insurance company doesn't try to reclaim their liabilities from you.

These tourist days are a lottery, how long before they introduce some kind of rules or better monitoring?
I went there a couple of weeks ago just for one lap on the way to Cologne. This is the first time I've been there in 5 years.

It was closed when we got there to clear up debris. We got on track 10 mins after it opened and we drove past 3 separate accidents which had obviously happened in those 10 mins since it re-opened.

I had to keep one eye on the rear view mirror the whole time.

It was great to be back on the track, I'd forgotten how steep some of the gradients are. However I can't see me ever going there again on a tourist day.
