He'd probably only sell it when he had finished with it though to be fair
Doubt anyone buying an ex-race engine would go into it with their eyes shut - easy to check if the engines knackered beforehand
These engines will run at 500bhp for way more than 400 miles
It wasn't an ex-race engine it was bought to race with, perhaps I should have said initially Egg were changing blocks that were found to have cracks in them, maybe they did run for many more miles but as the cost of the blocks wasn't an issue to them perhaps they were playing safe. I've had no interest in Cosworth tuning for 15 years, if people are saying they are getting way in excess of what the cars used to race with, without relability issues I'll take their word for it.
Can't see why he bought a knackered engine to race with in that case - always best to get a good engine builder to give it the once over if you're not sure.
A properly built 500bhp engine will last many more miles than 400 - that's for sure

It was over 20 years ago, it was checked over when it got here. I didn't say a 500 bhp engine only lasts 400 miles. That's all.

Always the problem of buying something unseen - sounds like bad luck

"The DC 5 SHOULD be faster out of the box than a standard Escort Cosworth, but it has got nearly 15 years of technology development on its side, considering the Escos first saw the light of day in 1992!!"

hmmm I'm not so sure, the DC5 is FWD and has 220 bhp, the cossie has 225 bhp and more grip..

watch fifth gear focus rs mk1 vs standard cossie, the focus rs Mk1 is a very good match for the honda, worse on the road than the honda but on the track it was dynamite for a FWD car (every tester said that at the time the Focus RS was brilliant on the track, but not very good on the crappy UK roads), it even had a trick diff to allow very high cornering speeds.. and guess what the old soggy escort cosworth (LOL) kicked its arse without any tweaks, my guess is it would do the same to the honda, its much quicker to 60 and they have similar top speeds.. I have driven integra's and type r civic's and they are very good but i dont think any quicker than a normal focus RS mk1..(although i can vouch 100 % the focus can genuinely hit 150 mph! on a private rd of course)

I think a focus RS MK1 would be more akin to a Honda DC5, however if you start tweaking it.. for very little money you can see 300 bhp out of the focus where as the N/A honda, well what can you do, add a turbo? add a supercharger? All very very expensive to do... Nope just buy a faster or more tuneable car smile

smash
More grip? Doubt it..........

Can't say for sure, but id be surprised if a Escort Cossie was quicker round a track than a DC5. A RS Mk1 would loose.

In standard form it should be! Lighter and less transmission loss. But, the Cossies are SO easily tunable, for £500 the DC5 wouldn't see which way the Escos went wink

That was the first thing that came in to my head. It's a lovely car and I adore those 80's fords but really I do sadly think you could do a lot better for that cash.

Are there many other Moonstone ones on the market at present? I'd rather have a White or black one in preference though, rare as the Moonstone ones are

I cant realy comment on a car i havent seen

If the car is as nice as it looks in the piccs then i would honestly say its worth the money and i am shocked it hasnt sold

I would question why it hasnt sold tho as moonstone 500"s ( if matching numbers ) and are all correct and good cars usually sell within weeks ,

Im sure it will sell tho , its just like everything else at tho moment , people are not spending there wonga

Audi RS2at 315bhp plus what the boys tune in is better value, mine with only stock 315 bhp is better than better value than the Ford and more fun than 1988 328 GTS, had a 1987 one of those and it was soon ruined when ABS stuck on and ride height enhanced.

Have picked up crash helmet for incoming......................
Still think RS2 is the best kept secret bargain..............paperbag

A great car but it's a different sort of thing than a RS500, E30 M3 Evolution Sports, Merc 190 EVO 2 etc.

Lots of cars are faster and cheaper than the 3 Touring Car homologation specials above.......or an RS2

I think you may have missed the point of the DC5, and Type R in general. If you want a big power drag racer, you are right, you won't get that from a DC5 without spending a lot of money, and ruining the car in the process. Type Rs are light on their fight, nimble and raw, qualities you cannot simply add to a car with a laptop and £500.
