A great car but it's a different sort of thing than a RS500, E30 M3 Evolution Sports, Merc 190 EVO 2 etc.

Lots of cars are faster and cheaper than the 3 Touring Car homologation specials above.......or an RS2
Agreed, yes the RS2 is a great car and under rated but its not a purpose built homologation car built for racing, any homologation car will command big money.

As Paul says if the car has the correct chassis/ engine number and in as good condition as the add says with all the 500 bits present it will sell for that sort of money imo

I think you may have missed the point of the DC5, and Type R in general. If you want a big power drag racer, you are right, you won't get that from a DC5 without spending a lot of money, and ruining the car in the process. Type Rs are light on their fight, nimble and raw, qualities you cannot simply add to a car with a laptop and £500.
The mk1 focus rs is also nimble, raw and light (1200kg, not sure what a type r is?) when mine was std it would see off a civic type r no proplem but as said with a map and a actuator your be knocking on to 260+ bhp and more touque and remember as std the mk1 focus rs was equipped with quaife dif, brembo brakes and ap clutch so takes to tuning very well and makes it a better car

Again, point missed. Nothing you can do to a single turbo car (unless it's a very small turbo) will give it the fidelity, response or noise of a Type R. If you just want power, by all means, get a Focus RSmk1, or a Cupra R, or an ST, or an Astra VXR, or a Golf GTI etc etc.

Might be worth pointing out that Quaife diff is also what so many blamed for the poor road experience offered by the RS.

I still have the mk1 focus rs, yes that do have little turbos (gt25) yes there a hand full on the road but when you have well over 220ft/ibs fwd cars can be a handfull! i take it your basing the poor road experience on from what jeremy clarkson said?

Nope, I think it was Chris Harris that first proposed the idea that the Quaife did more harm than good on the road. On the track, I'm sure it's great. I like the Focus RS, I wouldn't buy one but I respect it as a car of decent performance, but I'd much rather spend my money elsewhere thanks.

Back in the early 90s Autocar got hold of an E30 M3 Evolution Sport and an E36 M3 and got Steve Soper to drive them back to back round Goodwood.
The E30 was slower by quite a bit.
Nowadays, one car fetches 30k plus whereas the faster, newer car can be picked up for a fifth or sixth of the money in excellent condition.
So it is with the RS500 or Merc 190 EVO 2 - people buy these cars because of their rarity, rawness, the way they feel on the road.
I very much doubt whether the majority of people that buy these type of cars would see a DC5 ITR as an alternative although they might buy one as well as one of the above

I bought my RS 500 as i'm a ford nut which has run in the family and was at the right place at the right time, it's now worth a fair few quid more than what i paid for it which is a bonus for the kids!

Remember the RS 500 is equipped as std to run huge bhp, 8 injectors, thicker engine block, huge intercooler, massive to4 garret tubo and alot of other bit and bobs that the 3dr cosworth does'nt have, it just needs setting up for big power.

In my eyes its a great car with massive racing history, nudging 180+ mph in 1987 from a 4 cylinder, smoking the big v8's and mixing it up with the R32 skyline from a shonky old ford sierra!

Yep, all these cars have gone up a lot in the last decade - still quite an interest in them

Hehehehehe, i wanted one but went for a CTR instead, as they were a good 2k more expensive than a good low mileage CTR at the time. Definatly have one over a ST.

I doubt there would be anything in it with a standard DC5 on the road/track. Pretty similar power to weight. Don't think a FRS Mk1 is 1200kg though, bit heavier id of thought?

Anyone here fromOz? I keep getting offers for mine from down there as they are real men and like the bigger power versions... lol.

Seriously though, if cars like Pauls and mine (and race cars of course) didn't use the rs500 standard intercooler and all the injector gubbins to full effect etc., then the standard ones wouldn't make the kind of money that they do.

I knew I was needed for some reason??? Yippe it is to drive the rs500 as it should be driven... result!!

;-)))))))

When i fitted coilovers and had the car corner weight balanced it came in at 1268kg with over 1/4 of a tank of fuel and loads of bits and bobs in the car...

And as you say theres nothing in it between the frs and DC5, put them on track and nether will get past each other...std for std that is;-)

The money thay change hands for is staggering but thay do and theres always a enthusiasts or collector willing to pay the right money for the right car
