This does concern me. I always seem to remember the 'baby' Ferrari being a bit more expensive than a top spec 911 turbo, now it must be getting on for a £100k more expensive, or am I totally out of touch with the Porsche price structure?
The 458 is not the 'baby' Ferrari. It comes in above the California which would be the entry level model.TimJMS said:

In a moment of startling honesty, Lanzavecchia admitted that the Spider's thirty per cent less stiff than the coupé.
The Daily Telegraph article said:
Ferrari has strengthened the chassis to compensate, which has added 50kg, but the monstrous power hides the gain, and the company says that as a result of the stiffer chassis, structural rigidity is unchanged.
So who's right?Beefmeister said:

Oi, cheeky sod. No, but seriously, it was terrible, wasn't it?
Spider?
Dammit, fell foul of the dreaded Spider/Spyder thing. I'll never be able to show my face in 'The Thread' ever again...

TBH I was agreeing with you. It's much harder than it looks, did you see the first one we did with me in the 599? Pretty poor as well. We might be doing some stuff with the guys from fgear.tv soon so I better get my...teeth whitened, Hammond style.
I know mate. So disappointed, truly.
I like it, and I know this isn't the point, but I'd much rather have an F355 and a GT3 RS or perhaps a used 599GTO if they've come down in price at all. I don't even know why but the 458 just doesnt give me that tingling sensation at the prospect of ownership like other Ferraris would. Perhaps its the fact that a manual gearbox is no longer available, or perhaps its some styling details that are a bit fussy I don't know. I do know that its a lot prettier than the gilled 360, or the BBW rump of the 430 but isn't as delicate as the 355 or even 348.
And the Gallardo sounds better imho but I'd feel like a bit of a pillock for picking the 'worser' car. For the money I think I'd go for an LP640 and be done w/ it. A bit quicker than the 458 and with way more drama.

The obsession with structural rigidity has replaced the obsession for LSD as a pub topic.
I am no engineer but as I understand it, when a chassis is very very stiff to start with, whether you decrease or increase it by 30% it makes very very little difference, particularly on the road and nowhere near the limit. I think it's the law of diminishing returns in action there.
