RE: SOTW Special: BMW 635 CSi

I drove mine down to the Dordogne last year. Turned heads everywhere we went - especially rumbling through little French towns and villages. They don't seem to have many classics out there (other than aging 2CVs and the like). It was comfortable, reliable, quick and surprisingly economical.
It will definitely be missed.

We're definately breaking all the rules this week - we can't buy it and the person who did has no understanding of 'shedding' whatsoever.
You don't SORN a shed - you don't clean-up the paintwork. You might trace the source of a fluid leak if it's either dangerous or the fluid is costly enough to make it worthwhile - but shedding is NOT about restoring classic cars.
I don't really get why you buy a cheap 'heap' and then set out restoring it anyway - it's just throwing good money/time after bad!?
If you want to polish-up a really nice, solid, clean classic - start with a good base at least?
Anyway - can we get back to shedding next week please? Thanks...

But, in answer to your question, yes we can, but I shall be on holiday, so I can't promise it'll have the Riggers seal of approval

Oh hell no - it's just that shedding is one art, and restoration is another and it's both foolish and dangerous to mix them...We need to keep 6's alive for sure (esp as they are so prone to rust being the last non-corrosion-protected BMW) but enough people around here are staring at £1000 smokers and thinking of restoration instead of running-them-to-death as it is without ENCOURAGING them
I bought this one in 2004, and it was an absolute belter. Even got a set of Avon Metrics on it. Utterly immaculate throughout, no rust anywhere at all on the body or chassis, and the paintwork was fabulous. Had spent most of it's life in South Africa, and owned by a diplomat apparently.
One of the cars I wish I still owned - I ended up selling it as I couldn't garage it anywhere, and it didn't deserve to live on the street. I really hope it is still around and giving someone some pleasure - it must be worth a fortune now if it is still in the same condition as when I sold it.
