You'd have one as well an an F40. They are totally opposite cars which sums up the two ways to approach a supercar.
yes

In an ironic twist I'd say that the modern-day equivalent of the 959 isn't a porsche but a Ferrari.
The modern F40 is now the Noble M600, which would be my first choice of supercar right now (assuming semi sensible budget)

Says in the article, already thrashed, sorry tested, by dealer.
7 miles isn't a thrash, well maybe, but it's hardly been 'given a good seeing too'.

Did I spot a factory fit roll cage?

Ether way, it needs a full tank and a good hard thrashing, cars are meant to be used, if you want something to hide away as an investment and look pretty buy a bloody painting.
TBH I think it all depends on how the whole production run is used. If the majority of them were used and abused then keeping the odd one in this kind of condition can be a good thing, otherwise they might all end up crashed/thrashed/rusted away.

I can't see why anyone would choose one of these over an F40??
Chalk and Cheese, one is a brute force racer the other is a technological show piece. The 288 GTO was it's contemporary from Maranello anyway.
The F40 was comissioned by Enzo to take on the 959, initially the 288 GTO was built for Group B to race against the Porsche, but the 288 never got to race, then came the 288 GTO Evoluzione which was a development car for the F40. So it is right to put the 959 & F40 against each other. Hence the reason they've been rivals for many years.

Now this is the car I have always banged on about the 959 Sport. Most people dont even know it exists!!

legend has it the germans were very upset the F40 stole the 959's thunder so they made 100 Sports that can actually top 200 mph vs the regular 959's 197 maximum...

In any event the 959 was always a genuine sub 4 sec 0-60 car so was always quicker off the mark than an F40, and with a leather clad, air-conditioned, sound deadened cockpit, this car has always been a masterpiece of engineering. Just a tad too clinical alongside the flame spitting, back firing go-kart the F40 always was!

Awesome car - shame it hasn't been driven.

Imagine having £330k back in the late eighties to buy one though!

The F40 wasn't as expensive back then, was it?

And, weren't this sold at a loss?

As a die hard, all things Porsche fan. This really hurts to say ....... but,

Am I the only one who thinks it looks more kit car than super car?

The F40 did 0-60 in 3.8 seconds....and in my opinion, the purest form of a supercar, & yet to be bettered.

£750k rofl oh dear not ever, not ever.

A very bland bit of metal to park in the darkness of a garage.

Was it bought by Carlos Slim by any chance? Loose change for him.
It's all relative. For comparison...

Artist Christian Jankowski submitted a yacht (Dislopen range 68m CRN) as a work of art at the Frieze Art Fair, London. The usual list price of €65,000,000 becomes €75,000,000 as a work of art, which would then be named “Jankowski.” That is a mark up of 10 million Euro for an off the shelf current boat, with nothing different other than it's name.

Or how about a £50m work of art - an old skull with tacky bling glued to it?

You could buy a fair few rare cars for that.

959 originally sold for $250,000, according to Porsche it cost twice as much to produce.

Nevertheless sales generated around $84 million to add to their racing budget.

frown This is not an ornament or a piece of art, this car should be used and maintained as originally designed.

delivery miles, been stored for 15 years? Wouldn't like to estimate the cost in getting that into running order, on top of the top money paid to acquire it. Avoid. Would rather have one that has been driven, serviced etc than kept in a garage by a non petrolhead with the sole reason of making a profit.

More money than brain cells somes to mind.

Why the f**k would I want that t**ts name on my boat or launch.

I'd give it a name that meant something to me like everyone else.

Plus I'd be asking for a better deal on the price with Europe about to implode...

I have tried to find more info on the sport version, but to no avail. As far as I can learn from the article, there is no passenger door mirror, the roll cage and what looks like a full harness for the driver, I imagine (knowing Porsche) there were other tweaks as well, anyone have any additional info please?

Newer version of this - Mclaren SLR vs Carrera GT. One of them the comfortable cruiser with massive perofmance, the other the more focused drivers car. Less usable but arguably more special.

Just imagine.

The appreciation.

Seriously - the fuel would have been bought for 30p a litre, he could now get 5 times that! hehe

A great, if a little, unusual story though - very interesting to see smile For me the real interesting part is the seats. Even on 1000 mile garage queens you can see that they've at least been sat in - but those look like they just came off the production line!
