Would be interested to know where you got to Garlick. That's my local stomping ground with the Elise .... some truly wonderful stretches of tarmac round these parts!

Just swap in for a LS430 mate, mine never dropped below 25 and did 30+ on a run.

Recently got a MX5 MK1 you need to get out in it again and remind yourself how much fun they are, wont stay in the garage much then, I am currently spending every journey pretty much sideways everywhere at 30mpg+ lol!
I will agree that the fuel consumption on the LS430 is extraordinary given what it is. The only negative to me is that it could do with another 70hp or so.

Those W124 Mercedes Estates are now going for decent money, espeically a well-sorted one like your's.

You'll probably get around £2k+ for it.

Solid, well-built machines. Much better build quality than the later W210 models, which tend to just rot through.

I agree it never really felt quick, had a RX8 before, completely different type of power output lol! Still the best customer service I ever received was from Lexus Dealers, incredible, and nothing covered motorway miles like it!

Top post. I run an LS 400 as my London luxo barge and it has yet to let me down with over 106,000 on the clock. A hugely comfortable cruiser, effortless driving and can easily carry four with space to spread out. I usually get over 340 miles on a full tank on the motorway but in town struggle to see 20 mpg. Got any winter tyres on yours yet, great fun if we see any snow as you blast past BMW's and 4x4's !!

Coming from a V12 it would always feel slow but it certainly does pick up the pace. It does make you realise how bad most roads are since it was only till I got to a newly laid strip of motorway and all that I could hear was wind pass the windows did I realise how quiet they are.

Dealerwise....hmmm...I used to think they were exceptional but my experience when I was purchasing this was that a lot seem to be the same as any other chain. Pity since it was previously universally excellent.

On the topic of neighbours complaining about a noisy car being parked - unless you're in the habit of doing it every day at 4am, I fail to see the issue!?

Locally, there's someone who starts-up his crappy bike around that time and then holds it at a few thousand RPM for a good 5 mins before he deigns just to ride the fking thing. If it needs to be warmed-up for that long, it's no use for commuting at 4am you ignorant .

Our neighbour has similar issues (either buy a decent bike or walk for fks sake) but he leaves it until early evening to fill the neighbourhood with the smell of part burned petrol and oil, at least...

I need to borrow your TVR I think...

The LS400 is AWESOME. It practically defines "Gangsta" Charm, just like it's younger little cousin in Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai. smokin

Interesting. I do like to sample different cars, so would need to try another before swapping an LS for an LS, but I will consider that somewhere down the line.
Add to that the LS460. It's different and it's no LS400 in terms of its ride etc. Air suspension means it's lost a lot of the insulation for the outside world, but it also means it can be hustled along through bends and the like a lot faster and with little roll for such a big car. The overall ambience/effect if just as good. As for comfort, I've just returned from a 1500 mile drama free weekend. The LS's really are something else; easy barges with little drama. It is the most complete car I have ever driven and managed 28mpg for the trip. Try one. I'd be interested to know what you think contrast wise, jumping from the older to the newer.

Not really possible due to the layout....I'm not that silly not to realise this, despite how I may appear at times smile

I think I would have to echo that re the LS430 - not as 'cosseting' but quite amazing to see how it can push on through the corners. Very similar to my previous ABC equipped S600L as compared to my normal S600L (so W220 v W140) - a trade off in handling for reduced 'cocoon mode'

Ok. I was worried it was for real.
Guess it only lives on the internet.
