Saw one in a show container outside Tesco, It was Red and had different/large/flash alloys and sports seats, it looked superb, much better than a focus/megane/golf etc.
In fact the model I saw looked better than a Megane RS and Golf GTI and it was a 1.6, just wait till the VXR version comes out.
There is a lot of badge snobbery on here, especially by the Ford crowd but considering the new ST is 5 door only and looks horrific, you may have a new hot hatch champ soon.

What a peculiar writing style : two hillclimbs were used yet Loton gets a mention as the other one but not Shelsley Walsh as the one primarily described !
Not a peculiar writing style, just rank stupidity - the words 'Shelsley' and 'Walsh' now duly inserted where they deserve to be! smile

You're joking right? That thing looks completely awful²²²
Not atall, my mother owns one. It gets admiring glances all the time, good performance, probably best build quality in its class, low depreciation, rwd & costs very little to run. Still want an Astra?

The 3 door Focus is on its way. Personally i think the Vauxhall looks ugly, as for being the new hot hatch champ, i very much doubt it. I can't think of any generation Vauxhall that was a better drive than rivals from Ford or VW, it's not badge snobbery, it's just Vauxhall build very bland & uninspiring cars.

I just noticed the £21k price tag......hahahahahahaha, it's Halloween, not April fools day! That's very close to BMW 1 series & Lexus CT200h money, & i'd take a base model of either of those over any Astra.
A ct200h? eh?

Think you have your models confused. CT200h is a horrible FWD "thing" based wholesale on a Prius.

I personlly love fast Fords but some people dont want 'a better drive' they want raw speed and GTI,ST could not match the Astra in a straight line, not to mention the potential for tuning.
As I said I like Fords but been in a Golf GTI which is prob a better drive than a VXR but I was bored S***less, at least in a VXR you have fun.
Kind of gone off topic but lets wait and let the sales figures do the talking, see you all back here in 12 months smile

Are you describing your mother or the car? The description fits both! laugh

I wish manufacturers would stop referring to 3 door hatches as coupes. Even the MINI coupe is a hatch!

It's like calling Susan Boyle slim and beautiful. no matter how you dress it up, she's still fat and warty.

I dont see the lack of power being an issue really. If you want a fast astra then wait for the vxr. I personally think it looks really good but £21k does seem alot of money for an astra

Looks better than the current focus. Not the most inspiring design but then I'm not finding many new cars looking particularly great at the moment.
