Hmm. scratchchin Now where could I read about a group test between the Lotus, M5 and E500. Maybe throw in a Turbo R for a laugh?

Well stone me if the current issue of Classic Cars magazine out last week has not got just such a story. smile

Here's a taster...

owning an LC is on my bucket list.

i got my licence in '92 and the LC was like a sledgehammer to the anti speed brigade. hearing the garrett turbos spool up as it went by me in my 850 mini was akin to hearing the TVR V8 in the griffith around the same time. the latter having quite and effect on my future car choice!

It has got to be the Lotus Carlton everytime for me....

Nothing else even comes close to it.

To quote "One alternative is this BMW M5, which doesn't quite carry the same exclusivity tag"

Are you taking the piss?? What a ridiculous comment.

Why's that?

If i'm correct, I believe BMW built more M5's than Lotus did LC's (or LO's)

It would have to be the carlton for me but i wonder how a vxr8 would compare as there about £15k these days
I have a VXR8 Monaro (the old VZ two door) and I think it would compare pretty well to be honest. The Carlton is obviously an icon and I would like to own one of course, but bang for your buck the later Vauxall takes some beating now - its a hoot!
Remember seeing an autocar comparison of the two and the carlton was a solid amount quicker in a straight line

LC & LO: 950 made
E34 M5: 11,000+ made

Seems a fair comment to me.

That is the bit that I meant. An awful lot just leak until they're on the bump stops.
