I don't think I've ever wanted a car more.... Posters of it up on my bedroom wall circa 1994, I used to LOVE this car.
I'll get one, one day when I can be bothered. A car I find really special, more from the memories brought back to me from looking at it, than what it could do.... Went out in 550bhp one about 5 years ago and it was faster than my 16M!!!
Love it - Conveys a "F**K YOU" attitude (like similar era 911 Turbos) that's gone from todays chicken-5hit PC supercars.
TonyHetherington - an Escort Cosworth at 19?!! I am AMAZINGLY envious!

I did some photo's for a friend at the beginning of the year of his Monte edition, absolutely stunning car.
It was also the first time I had been in a Cosworth for a few years, his is tuned to 550bhp and Ive never felt power like it.

I would love one.

that does look stunning.
often seen those wheels on escort cosworths, they look just right, what are they?
i got rid of my bmw e34 m5 earlier this year, but wll probably get something again next year between tours and was thinking an escort cosworth could well be on the shortlist.

Rondells I think they were called. Also another common one was OZ Superturismo (the multi spokes).

I can respect these, but if honest they did absolutely NOTHING for me.

Truly can't see the appeal of any Escort of this era, no matter what engine it had. It wasn't even very successful at top level rallying either.

Massive over-hype IMO.

I'd prefer a gt-four from toyota.

I love these things but sadly I could never own one, I'd be constantly paranoid about it being nicked.

To be fair it isn't an Escort underneath.

Nope, but I remember the one with the Cosworth V6 engine
Well I drove the 2.0 litre one around Boreham back in the day!
Do you know John Bull? He ran that V6 one for a while doing evaluation work. Tell us about the 2 litre rwd one

I'm 31 now, but had an Escort Cosworth Lux (L-reg) when I was 19. Don't even ask what the insurance was hehe

Interestingly, prices have gone up since those days (in the 2.5yrs I owned my car it went from £12k to £14k)
A Cosworth at 19....you l*ucky, l*ucky b*stard!
We're about the same age, I looked at a £6K sapphire when was about 21 and the insurance then was eye watering enough on that, let alone a £mid-teen escort at 19!

£3-400 would see that 220bhp rise to 300bhp very easily! The potential these engines have is amazing. They are road cars that were built for racing. Since the end of homologation, things just arn't the same getmecoat

Tony is correct, they are Rondells.
Im not keen on those wheels, the owner had some dark grey Compomotive MO 6 spokes, I thought they looked much better.

+1 - I'm a 3 door RS man myself. The RWD gearboxes were more up to big tuning than the 4x4's . As soon as the 4x4 Saph or Escort went about 350bhp, you need to spend £££ on the gearbox.

I think the Escorts are a bit over valued, but the original 3 doors will pull serious money in years to come.

I had the Sapphire 4x4 Cosworth during the 90s. All true about the plastic dash and rather industrial feel but as a fun car it was responsible for many spontaneous, huge grins. When you talk to previous owners you can see their faces light up with genuine affection. Wasn’t best in class by any stretch of the imagination but you knew exactly what you were getting into, i.e., no pretentions.

Like the ones on the Reyland escort?

MO1810 I believe.
