Love it!
I'm 31 now, but had an Escort Cosworth Lux (L-reg) when I was 19. Don't even ask what the insurance was
Interestingly, prices have gone up since those days (in the 2.5yrs I owned my car it went from £12k to £14k)
You're not the chap from Harrogate are you that had a White one?I'm 31 now, but had an Escort Cosworth Lux (L-reg) when I was 19. Don't even ask what the insurance was

sorry but the performance stats are misleading...
the original big turbo car was easily under 6 sec's to 60, fords official figure was 5.7 some testers proved as fast as 5.5 sec's. Even the saff 4x4 was tested by some magazines back in 1990 and was able to crack 60 in 5.4 sec's on several runs (ford even ran that in a big ad campaign). The top speed on the big turbo escort was easily 140 with the wing in place and on the small turbo car that wing became an option, those who opted for no wing could see a top speed near around 145mph.
fact is car this car was designed to produce downforce and negative lift, thus giving the ability to corner at crazy speeds. Tweaked examples with stiffer suspension are quite literally mind boggling! And without the factory settings, a lightly fettled 300 bhp escort will blow away many an exotic machine, and thats before you even get to a bend!

One of my favourite cars when I was young, this and the R34 GTR.
Remember when I got my first go in the Cosworth when I was about 15, incredible.. Loved every single second and won't forget it. Wasn't standard, and the first 'performance' car I had been in.
Don't like the other Cosworths they done, just the Escort.
9/10

A Cosworth at 19....you l*ucky, l*ucky b*stard!
We're about the same age, I looked at a £6K sapphire when was about 21 and the insurance then was eye watering enough on that, let alone a £mid-teen escort at 19!
It was a lot of saving and a lot of working that enabled it (I worked in a nightclub as well, which meant not only did I not go out, but I earnt money too). Actually the insurance wasn't mega silly - it was £4.5k. A lot, obviously, but glad I did it I should stress - I'm far from rich. Quite the opposite in fact, I merely had car-based priorities at the time We're about the same age, I looked at a £6K sapphire when was about 21 and the insurance then was eye watering enough on that, let alone a £mid-teen escort at 19!

Stunning; I love it!
Those wheels just looks so right on the car. Plus it's in my all time favourite car colour; Imperial Blue. Why son't Ford still do their performance cars in that colour???
They did, the Focus RS MK1 was in any colour as long as it was Imperial BlueThose wheels just looks so right on the car. Plus it's in my all time favourite car colour; Imperial Blue. Why son't Ford still do their performance cars in that colour???
Just like many of the PH Heroes - you have to be of a certain age?
For me, and my Peers, a Cossie is always a special sight. Theres just something about them. Even compared to a Integrale or suchlike, theres a little bit of magic, Part of it I think comes from that most people know where there is one, have seen one on the road, or have a 'Johns dads mates got a cossie!' type stories. Proper working mans hero.
Found some great photos here -
If theres one angle that screams Cossie...
See? These fellas all look like Cossie owners, and they are all called Dave. it just 'fits'.
Stunning
I like the late WRC versions too. This, In Juha Kankunen livery, 1:10 scale, was my rallying dream.

Rondells I think they were called. Also another common one was OZ Superturismo (the multi spokes).
Tony is correct, they are Rondells.Im not keen on those wheels, the owner had some dark grey Compomotive MO 6 spokes, I thought they looked much better.
MO1810 I believe.

Nice Car but...................
Would still prefer a nice Quattro 20v, even if just to hear the 5 Cylinder motors sound between 3500 and 5000rpm, still a headturner in a way the Escort would never know
Try an RS2 with old fashioned 315 bhp courtesy of porsche and garrett turbo, five real singing cylinders, dont tell anyone they will all want one !!Would still prefer a nice Quattro 20v, even if just to hear the 5 Cylinder motors sound between 3500 and 5000rpm, still a headturner in a way the Escort would never know
Take the badges off front and back and it looks like an old audi 80 estate.
Sleeper is not adequate description.
