both cars depreciate more than the cost of the 2 year contract. so how does that even work??? do the lease companies buy them in such volumes that they don't pay anywhere near list price and pass some of those savings on to the punter? if the arse was to fall out of volvos for any reason, and the car wound up only being worth 15,000 would you be protected from that?

You can get a similar deal with 10k pa but the car without options is pretty basic and the 1.6d engine isn't exactly a ball of fire. However prices for other models in the V60 range are all 300+ so Volvo must be pushing this model specifically.

Do you reckon it's just to get the headline figure down ? Yep. Try ringing and asking for 12 or 15k per year. Bloody huge difference. Let alone the 20k per year i usually end up doing. When you get to thiose numbers buying looks a better option

Yes, you just hand it back once you've made your payments and let someone else take the theoretical hit.

And we use that as the family car. I did 4300 in my Clio 200, but only drive to work and back then to footy a couple of times a week. Most deals are 10k for a bit more, but not much. The r design isn't that basic, it certainly no focus zetec, which is the same payment I'd prefer petrol cars obviously but all deals seem to be for petrol. This is the only thing putting me off the merc. It's the deal that's attracting me rather than the car.

10k for the Merc shouldn't make any difference to the payment, as the lease will be run through MB Finance and they don't increase the residual for mileage any lower than 10k.
If they're putting the payment up they're just building a bit of margin back in the car.

Has anyone spotted any great deals of late? I'm possibly looking at a personal lease for something like a Golf GTD / 1 Series diesel or similar.. has to be on a reasonably short lead time for delivery.

| Car | Net cost | | Skoda Superb Estate 2.0TDi CR 140 DPF EU5 Elegance Laurin & Klement 6Spd | £518.09 | | Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0TDi CR 170 DPF EU5 vRS 6Spd | £438.32 | | Skoda Fabia Estate 1.4TSi 180 EU5 vRS DSG Auto7 | £364.14 | They are from work (cpcdrive) on a 0x36 profile. Fully maintained, insured + taxed. I'm seriously pondering the ugly fcker that is the Fabia....180bhp through a DSG box in something that compact(ish) sounds a right laugh.

That's a pretty stonking 'all inclusive' deal as long as the mileage allowance is sensible.

That sounds pretty good. Is that the NHS scheme though?

Yeah it's an NHS salary sacrafice scheme and those numbers are for 12k miles.
The thing quotes as being the "Net cost to employee (inc BIK)".
The more I think about it the more I fancy it. Planning on dropping into my local Skoda place at the weekend to see what's what.

If you're in a place, such as Leeds , where car insurance is high then that alone could make it worthwhile. Also there's a huge "peace of mind" benefit in having a company car - you don't worry about where it's parked or have sleepless nights if it makes a funny noise etc.

I did a spreadsheet the other day and over 2 and a bit years of ownership my Volvo has cost me a little over £300/month to run. Included for:- - Insurance - depreciation - Tax - Servicing - MOT - Tyres It's due a service soon(ish) and ideally needs the belts doing, and will need 2x front tyres I reckon. Plus which there is a minor knock coming from somewhere (suspension related). They have a Bork factor of 10 these models of V70. I was waiting for someone to reply with a sesible counter argument but I can't really see one at the moment.

The counter argument is the volvo is twice the car of the skoda and if you get any scratches or scuffs on the paintwork and/or go over the mileage, you will get bent over for it upon return. There's no denying it is cheap though...

The other thing is that if you lose your job (or just change jobs) you lose the car. This might suit some people especially if they've borrowed to buy it, but if you rely on the car it could leave you high & dry.
