Dog Star said: I've just leased the C250CDi AMG SLK (3+23, 15K/pa 350+vat/month) which replaces my truly wallet busting SL500.
It is astonishingly quick for a diseasel - I was quite surprised when I got it. 201bhp, 500nm torque, 7 spd auto with flappy paddles. I also get 58mpg going to work and an overall (so far) of 44mpg. I wouldn't bother with the petrol - the power delivery is lovely and I am prepared to endure the noise for this and the economy. Hoping I can have a Mercedes dealer take me serious enough to drive both the 200 petrol and 250 diesel in both manual and automatic

That is a cracking deal, on a value for money par with the 640d M Sport lease I got earlier this year. The big difference being the additional mileage charge, mine is 22p + VAT over the contracted 8000 pa! Where is this deal?

I'm looking into the option of leasing a C Class Coupe, the C250 CDI with the AMG Sport Plus trim and a manual box being the one which really suits my needs.
Looking on contracthireandleasing.com I notice the prices and deals are quite often massively different from each other and quite often when you look on the websites of those advertising they are a lot more expensive.
I've never leased before and am researching and shopping around at the moment. Can anyone offer advice about the above and possibly point me in the right direction of a reliable company for one?

A lot of companies who advertise do not have the cars but can get them. Once you order they then seek to secure one. Sometimes it can take them 2 or 3 weeks to come back to you with an answer of either yes or no. Even then they might give you a delivery date of 3 months time. So its not exactly immediate or even definite.

They have been mentioned a few times here but Freedom Contracts are pretty good, they also have an "In Stock" section which may be of use. The large fluctuation in price is usually down to the options fitted on the car. I had emails through the other day stating unbeatable offers on E-Class coupe's and cabs, may be worth checking also - the deals are usually generic so most companies will offer them.

Thanks for the replies guys. Had a look at Freedom Contracts and the prices do looks competitive. Not super high but at the same time not suspiciously low. The model I want isn't listed, the sport trim is but not the sport plus. That model is a stock model though so I may be tempted. A little undecided on auto or manual too...
I need to sell my current car now. I've been moved to work 30 miles from home and a 60 mile round trip at 19-23mpg sadly isn't sustainable any more.

Not meaning to offend but the Mercs IMO are best suited to an auto especially the diesels.
Especially for a 30 mile commute.
Try driving both and see what you think.
Mate has an E class with the same engine and the 7 speed auto is fantastic.
Just sayin'.

Try your local Mercedes dealer too. When I was looking my local dealer was pretty much on par with the best prices online, and you get the confidence of having a bricks and mortar company to deal with. I didnt choose the Merc in the end but the experience in the early stages was good and pricing fair compared to online. Also, always try to find out what cars are on campaign, that's where you'll get the best deals. Some dealers/lease companies will be happy to answer, others will just try to take you in the direction that best suits their bottom line...

Getting more and more tempted to get a lease deal due to the fact you will drive a brand new car under warranty and will have more control of how much money you will loose.
There used to be cracking deals on the SLK55AMG on the Merc's website. I'm doing my research but one thing you need to be very careful at are the fine prints. Especially the one that dictacts the condition of the car when you return it.

I plan on visiting my local dealer and seeing what they can do too. Looking around it seems some dealers have been able to very closely match the 'middle men' and there's something quite reassuring about getting one direct from the manufacturer.
GreatGranny, not offended, I'm not rushing into anything and looking on the internet the auto box is getting a lot better reviews. The MB manuals are said by some to be poor compared to the quality of the auto.
I suspect it's partly down to my only experience of an automatic being a ropey 150k mile Saab pool car we once had as a runaround at work. Other than that I've only ever driven manuals and I guess I'm a creature of habit. I suppose I find change uncomfortable but that should soon wear off.
Does anyone know the position with leased vehicles and private plates? Sorry for a million and one questions, it's all new ground.

We have recently got er indoors a new E250cdi auto. Cracking car and engine would have prefered the 350 but she just "needed" a new car so wasnt really bothered about enginey bits just wanted an auto again and those "special headlights that go round corners"
Dealer sorted p plate easy enough

I've found the trick in regards to condition when it goes back, is to fight them and not just accept how much they want to charge you. My last co. car went back in May, they tried for £480 quid. I said b ks in a polite way in a letter and they wrote back saying sorry sir, the pictures are quite blurry, you're probably right. Result, £0 paid - I wasn't lying, it was in good order anyhow so was a nice victory. The co. car before that was in and out of the garage for two years, so I made the dealer fix a couple of car park dings and put four new tyres on it as way of apology just before it went back - about £800 worth. So I had £0 to pay then also (although I did have the bother of being at the dealer every three months because they couldn't fix an injector). Not trying to big myself up for getting one over on 'the man', just saying that although they'll try to fleece you at the end of a lease, if you don't accept it there's a good chance of avoiding extra costs. I'll probably get monumentally shafted when my current car goes back in a few years now I've said all this though...
