version 8.2, is this the Apple MP4-12C? Do you need to take it do a dealer or just connect it to iTunes?

Serious note; I agree that its great to see a manufacturer taking even their already-sold cars so seriously, hope it catches on!

Why is it a brilliant response from McLaren? They misjudged the car in terms of driver appeal when it was released and are now having to go back to the drawing board to rectify these misjudgements.

The reason Ferrari doesn't need to do this is because they get it right the first time (driver appeal).

Both sides have a point:

Yes the product wasnt quite right from the outset (both in terms of quality and driver appeal), but hats off to Mclaren for taking them back and fixing BOTH issues. The end product will be an even better car.

A British car manufacturer produces a spectacular car with a few niggles off the production line and it gets totally flamed by its critics, whereas Ferrari produces a spectacular car which actually catches fire and people don't really seem to notice. Much...

Funny that.

McLarens are supposed to be fast but dull, Ferraris are supposed to be red, noisy and sometimes on fire, Porsches are supposed to all look the same... normal business is it not? :tongueincheek:

It is not a recall as there are no safety issues. It is an upgrade. Not exactly breaking news either. Has already been discussed for several days: http://www.mclarenlife.com/forums/showthread.php?t...

Upgrade takes about 3 days.

Have they fixed the fact they were supposed to be doing a 911 rival this time rather than another supercar.. then they conveniently forgot once their car had got enough press attention. Promised a 911 rival later and quadrupled the price tag!!

It had me quite excited 12 months before its release.

I love the way that there has been so much fuss about the 12C delays etc. People don't seem to notice that the Aventador has had serious delays too...
Perhaps the Aventador might work though as I understand the delay is down to Audi insisting on better QC.

It's just as well it's not a spoken word forum, you'd never be able to understand anyone as it'd all sound like "flllgarbeleghhgarblefellaaagli" as everyone tried to speak with Ron's balls in their mouths.

Speaking of false starts, could someone please explain something for me - has the Aston One-77 actually been launched yet? There are videos of the thing on Youtube up to 2 years old, and wikipedia says delivery started in oct 2010, but I can't find a single test or comparison of one. Is Aston just forbidding journalists from going near the thing?

I have to say this 'Ferrari versus McLaren' debate gets a little tiresome sometimes.

It's not a case of one is 'better' than the other, maybe they are just aimed at different markets. And would I prefer one with a few niggles the manufacturer holds their hands up to and fixes or one that bursts into flames?

Like most on here I'm not likely to buy either for a long while (if ever) but it still makes me go 'Hmmmmm......' scratchchin

One other slight point to make.

Whilst everyone wants to say tha the Mclaren is flawed in handling over the 458 (which it may well be) I seriously doubt that there are many people here that could actually tell the difference let alone exploit it.

Come on, the doors go up, thats enough for me to like.

Nobody who has had to try to get their toy computers working in a business environment would agree with you on that. Hateful, unstable, bug ridden things. Pretty though.

The only thing that "just works" is the marketing.

The best bit is 99% of cars out there have multiple upgrades/tweaks and recalls through their life, and you never hear anything about it.

McLaren offers one upgrade/recall/whatever and you never hear the end of it (plus you get 4000x replies of 'the Ferrari is better' )

Aston continually improve their cars, although they probably don't recall vehicles specifically. They just add it to the next version to sell. If Mclaren want to improve their cars and give the benefits to existing customers why not. Better than those customers having to shell out on a new car!

Mclaren should fit the 458 engine as a starting point, or start again with a new car. One with looks, character, sound, driver enjoyment. Also important, a car that has a chassis that can handle well without the assisted braking, traction control and the other electronic trickery. You can't turn these off on the Mclaren. Did you see what this car did to Tiff Needel, threw him off the track basically, due to all these systems freaking out.
