The windows blowing out never happened to a customer car.
New cars being delivered will have all the fixes which are available smile
I'm sure you're right re the windows but there have been a disappointing number of annoying problems with early customer cars which in light of expectations are doing McLaren no favours. Their reaction is good and it will stand them in good stead. Problems happen, its how you deal with them that really counts.
My main point was that upgrading "existing" cars is a good thing. The fixes being applied to the new cars going to customers is fine and good and only right IMO but looking after your clients by improving the cars they already bought will go down well and is to be applauded. Will they continue to do this with upcoming "upgrades" (Like a software company does for example) once the production car glitches are eradicated.
As owners we have been promised that car number 1 will be exactly the same as car number 5000,then when they have done with that model they will launch a new one

Spotted last week also, a3/m25 roundabout. Definatly testing as there was a bloke making notes.
Almost certainly being delivered somewhere... He could have been filling out paperwork ready for delivery?
Quite possible i guess, but they came off the a3 and went back onto the a3, so bit of a odd route.... regardless nice car
All paperwork is now done on iPads - because it is technology that just works.

Printed below is a transcript of the letter from McLaren boss Ron Dennis addressing some of the issues of the McLaren MP4-12C supercar:

"It is with both pleasure and frustration that I am writing to you at this early stage in your ownership of the McLaren MP4-12C. Pleasure because you are now part of our McLaren family and have bought into what I believe to be both the best car in its class, and the most exciting automotive adventure in decades; but frustration on a personal level because we have not yet been able to deliver on the high standards that we have promised and that should come as given with the McLaren brand. We have built up our McLaren businesses over the past decades based on our determination to be the best, and that is no different for the MP4-12C and all of our future cars.

When we began working on the MP4-12C, we were determined to deliver not only the best car in its class, but also the best ownership experience. We believe that the performance and driving experience of the MP4-12C is world class. However, along the road to achieving our goals, we will experience challenges. As you will have already heard from my staff, we are experiencing some early software bugs resulting in unnecessarily sensitive warning lights, battery drainage in certain conditions and IRIS performance issues. My team and the McLaren retailers are working with the pace and intensity that the McLaren brand demands to fully resolve these bugs rapidly and effectively to ensure that any inconvenience to you is kept to a minimum. It will however require your 12C to come back to your dealer at some point so that we can upgrade the software on your car. I hope that the way we deal with these issues sets us apart and is to the standard you would expect from McLaren.

We know you share our passion for racing, therefore as a token of my appreciation for your support during this time, your retailer will be giving you a pre-release copy of the new 'McLaren: The Wins' coffee table book. I hope that you enjoy the stories behind what makes McLaren winners and that this, in some small way, reminds you how much we appreciate your faith in us. We want to win on the road as well as the track, and we will work tirelessly to achieve this goal.

I would like to extend my personal thanks for your support and patience at this time. Should you have any questions, please contact your retailer in the first instance. Alternatively, please call my staff at McLaren Assistance on 0800 975 8285."

Did Luca Montezemelo write to flaming ferrari owners? info appreciated.
Good old Ron you have to admire his prefessionalism and candidness.

Reading that made me want to buy a McLaren. I have no doubt they will get the car to where it should be.

Sadly it's way out of my league or I'd be marching down the McLaren showroom without hesitation.

MP$-12C is far, far preferable to the fireball XL5, sorry 458, which does nothing for me and would only fail to live up to the road test and track performance (which ferrari notoriously cheat at - also explains how the 355 I foolishly bought was so pathetically slow).

I wish McLaren every success, salute the current owners and commend them on their impeccable taste.

Did lord! Take your tongue out of his arse! Do you think when you get a letter from the Bank it's ACTUALLY from Mr X Watkins. Customer Relations Director? Or one of his lackeys! Or when BMW write to tell me about a recall. It's actually from the BMW UK Chairman?

Does your (frankly pathetic) hatred of Ferrari against McLaren mean you lose rational thought? The cars are going wrong. Of COURSE McLaren would sort it. In the same way BMW/Audi/Peugeot/Ford would sort a problem with a car that's under 6 months old. It's called Warranty! It's if they DIDN'T then it would be newsworthy! laugh

And McLaren would NEVER send an entire test team to the Car Mag and Evo mag tests now would they. Very few performance manufacturers DON'T!

Please do research before quoting Chris "well I chose the Porsche over everything" Harris laugh

Having been on a magazine shoot of a 12C (which was in a group test) which was supported by a team of mechanics, I can honestly say that they didn't change anything on the car to boost the performance or give it an unfair advantage over a production version. All they do is make sure that there aren't any problems. Sort the car if there are any problems (which there weren't) and change the wheels when tyres are used up (which they were hehe )

It's a recall, plain and simple and most manufactures DON'T have these problems. In all, you would be amazed at the amount of recalls there have been. There were 2 done at the dealership before I collected my car, 3 visits to my house from a technician and a further visit to a dealership. At that point I had had enough and sold it. Had I not got rid of it, it would have gone back again for this one.

I also understand, there is at least one more required recall which will require yet another dealership visit before the cars are as intended. That's at least 7. It's shambolic. A real wasted opportunity for Mclaren. If the next model is the same, they're in serious trouble.

You also have to bear in mind Mc haven't been making cars off a production line in quite the same rate as Ferrari or even Lambo, we're talking 3 production road cars ever? I think a few tweeks after a bespoke car appears is not a real problem, better than being given a car and found out others have burnt to a cinder.

Makes no difference though as I can't afford one anyway...

my car is running fantastic,a few minor sensor problems but they are all fixed with the upgrade.I have had the car away for 3 days and so far had 2300 miles of unbeleivable performance. As for the satnav its the required purchase on any car these days, but for me thats just for resale,,so im not bothered about it.

They're hardly going to do it there and then.hehe

From the reviews I've read about it, it doesn't seem to need the extra help anyway.

Are you doubting Ferraris ridiculous control freak mentality.
Some of the figures recorded by "press" cars are way ahead of optimisation variance. Check out the Autocar figures for the original 360 Modena !!! Or watch a customer Scuderia being suprisingly smoked in a straight line by a 97GT2 and an LP560 despite official cars being tested at or close to equality.Oh thats right, you cant beacause the video has been "withdrawn" from You Tube. Mmmm

Thats a laugh.

I love my Scud, its a great car but as an owner I'm embarrased by the Factory's bullying.
