Over the last few years even the switch panels have been located to between the seats to keep everything lower in the car.
It saves weight too. They don't bother with mounts on the co-driver's seat, and just bolt it to the floor.

I can't remember if it was Phil Mills or someone else. but years ago they nearly had some shrapnel up their ass because of the low seat.

It was Timo Rautiainen (Gronholm's co-driver) who had a nail up his arse. Not a very nice experience...

What did that prove? rofl
And the FIA (or the 70's equivalent) banned them from doing it very quickly as the Navi's head was outside the rollcage. The next event one of the 131's rolled and destroyed where the navigators head would have been. (going from memory so may not be 100%a accurate but it was something like this)
