The RV8 gives you torque even when you don't want it - it can get unpleasantly hairy, for sure.
In fairness, that problem is pretty much specific to the 500. I've always thought that they should have made a '430 Red Rose' instead - which is pretty much what I've been developing from mine. Of course, TVRs way was a bit cheaper, and got them headlines for all the right as well as the wrong reasons.

There's alot to be said for a non standard cam in the 500, it's possible with a few mods to move the torque further up the rev range, and make it more progressive as the engine speed increases rather than instantaneous and at low revs. It tends not to favour a lazy driving style, but it also (IMO and based on personal experience) makes the car far more predictable, particularly on damp roads (I'm sure I said this in another thread recently) Must be my age
I remember driving my 500 one cold February morning and I'd decided to take it to work so was mixing it in rush hour commuter traffic. Cold engine, cold tyres, cold air temperature, damp greasy roads, and I was waiting to get onto a roundabout. Saw a gap, barely tickled the throttle and WHOOOOAAAAAA back goes out at less than 10mph in half a half length and almost clonks the car next to me. Scared the st out of me, I can tell you.

By 1999 they were *exactly* the same car with different bodies. Even the mythical differences in suspension were just that - mythical.
I'm talking about the Griff 500 and the Chim 500, mind. The lesser Chims did differ.
Morning Jon. I'm talking about the Griff 500 and the Chim 500, mind. The lesser Chims did differ.
You know that I know this but you also know that shaving a chimp doesn't make it a human

if the torque of a 500 puts the willys up some owners 320/340lbft, god help the nutters who are sticking LS7 engines in Griffs/Chims
Since when did a 500 have 320/340 (assuming your talking bhp/torque). Or are you talking torque only between 320/340? Ya don't need a Chevy engine to make a Tiv seriously quick. The RV8, suitably tweaked will give you a road going car that very few others can beat, certainly on a dry road. Particularly if, like me, you're a driving God The extra horsepower is just a side effect
