RE: Driven: Mercedes SLK55 AMG
Discussion
Well i am lucky enough to own a 2005 SLK 55 AMG and its a cracking car. Yes im fat and 43 and no doubt have the car to suit my age and waist line, but that aside its a lovely car to own/drive. Servicing is not a real issue. Independants are cheapest of course but you will only pay circa £400 for the "Biggy" service at a main dealer. If your worried about MPG then dont buy this car. I use mine as a daily drive and around town it does 18mpg (at best) (13 at worst), unless you get a couple of miles of 40 mph then it might creep to 22mpg. However on a run down to my parents in Leicestershire I got 33mpg whilst on cruise at 70mph. Thats not bad at all considering the engine size. Unfortunately, like many "Automag" figures, they dont take into account any "Spirited drives" that you may encounter on a long journey. If this is the case then you will easily only do 14mpg or less whilst tonking along the motorways of the UK, battling the odd Porka or two !!.
The biggest price to watch out for will be the full set of pads/disks/tyres which will set you back circa 1.5k at the main dealer. Treat the car with some respect and you may well not even have that bridge to cross.
Watch out for seal leaks too. Mine leaked like a sieve until i got the back quarter lights adjusted correcty.
Dont let any of that put you off however, as I love the car, and will hopefully trade in for a later model in a few years time !! :-)

This has to be one of the best "real world" cars on the planet doesn't it!?
German engineering, Mercedes sparkle, coupe security AND a proper convertible, sub 5 secs to 60, sub 200 emissions, looks fantastic (in the right colours), sounds like it handles too, what's not to like?
A hot rod, a long distance GT cruiser, an open top, a coupe, it must be one of the most complete cars on the road.
Unless you're insecure enough to worry about some Internet image of course....

It's all on the online configurer now...
Is anyone still looking at one of these, or even better driven one?
I've got to the point in my deliberations about a slk350amg that by the time I'd specc'd a couple of options, the finance deals available on this car mean that it's not a huge difference stepping up.
Have a pretty good idea of my spec - not a lot on top of the standard car, but really want a drive before parting with my cash....
