Fail.

Too expensive, too ugly and nowhere near enough poke. At 28 large, before options, you can buy a 2 or 3 year old Cayman, even a Cayman S. I know which I'd rather have. Hell, I'd much rather have a Golf GTi over this.

They've created an rx8 without the interesting engine or clever doors..

I'd tend to agree that it's a bit too expensive. 25k would have been about right, IMO, for it to compete for the attention of people in their early 20s with the current generation of hot hatches. At 28k, it's far enough above them to be significant.

Still, I don't think it's massively overpriced. Yes it looks a bit expensive compared to the 370Z, but it ought to drive better (it's lighter and the boxer engine should allow a lower CoG) and be more economical, plus it has four seats so is considerably more practicable.

I think those complaining it's too slow, aren't the target market.

I rather like it. It's one of the few new cars that I'm genuinely interested in, as it focuses on the right things.

Bah, too expensive but blame the weak pound. I bet this will work in markets that matter (Japan and the US) where the pricing will be competitive.

everything else is about right - styling (pretty god for a rice rocket), power, drivetrain layout and most importantly WEIGHT.

(remember everyone whinging about how heavy cars are these days? Well this one at under 1200kg seems to be spot on for a 2+2 coupe)

Wouldn't be seen dead in this, it looks like a Korean car manufacturer's halo model would have 7 years ago frown

If this is the poverty spec launch model, id still be interested to see the performance version, but that price is still a killer.

All i keep thinking is what sort of m3 i could get for that kind of price.

I'll take the Subaru version please. 25k tops with high spec or it'll just fail to sell. 28k is just far too much, as everyone has said.

I actually quite like the way it looks, but let's consider the stats...

GT 86 - 197bhp f-4, 166 bhp/tonne, £28,000

370Z - 320bhp V6, 218 bhp/tonne, £29,000

Toyota have priced this way too high.
spot on, be very hard to walk by a 370z and buy this.

How much is a Scirocco R? Not a true coupe perhaps, but isn't a poverty spec one not much more than this?

Actually looking at it, the current Golf GTi seems to start at over 25k, so maybe an extra 3k for a bespoke RWD platform isn't too bad.

Would have been very interested in this at ~£20k but it's too expensive. Mazda managed to hit that price point with the RX8, why not Toyota?

I quite like the looks.

Don't think I'll be trading in my 370 though.

The Nissan looks better than this, all day long.

Has a beefier stance, and probably better to drive than this as well.

Definitely a quicker car, too.

This is about the same price as the RX-8 was at release in real terms (assuming an average of 4% inflation PA, which is probably reasonable).

And only has two seats, and probably uses 30% more fuel and costs twice as much to tax and insure,... purchase prices may be similar, but running costs probably wont be.
