The Toyota sales managers had their annual sales conference at the NEC yesterday, and were told the GT86 would start around £25K. The official launch is June, with approx 1500 cars for the UK in 2011.
They will be sold out by July. thumbup

And will probably have very low depreciation - could be a very cheap year's motoring, I would have thought.

"Indeed Toyota says that turbocharging along with four-wheel drive and wide tyres are what make sports cars boring to drive."

Toyota gets it.

Yep, is it about 6 per dealer? Can imagine they will sell out very quickly and initial depreciation will be very low. Kind of like Mini when it first came out.

That is indeed correct - it wasn't clear from the above whether Toyota thought it was a combo of all 3 that made them boring or any given one though as in - 4wd 911 Turbo = boring, GT2 = exciting

Had a good close up look at it (in the metal) yesterday. Pics don't do it justice. As said above, 215 tyres and 17" wheels, a decent balance of power and weight and RWD is what will make this car a hoot to drive. Quite a few bits of bodywork seemed replaceable (see limited editions) which makes Scion like customisation as possibility.

Interior trim very nice too. It will be interesting to see the first drive reports.

Should have a good 'feel' with that size tyre - to think when the E30 M3/Sierra Cosworth came out, similar power, similar weight, a 205 width tyre on a 7" rim was considered big!

given the BS that autocar's put out on this one so far, are we really going to believe their 'toyota insider' on this one?

(not saying it won't happen - a stopped clock is right twice a day..)

Indeed.

How does it compare?

It makes a Scirocco seem synthetic, an RCZ anaesthetised, a 3-series Coupé over-complicated. This is a pure driving device like an Elise or an MX-5 with sharpened sinews. This is how a proper sporting coupé should be. Toyota intended it to embody elements of the 1960s 2000GT and the 1980s rear-drive Corolla Twin-Cam (AE86), and it does.
Bish bash bosh, job jobbed.

Also - 1190kgs and 25k. Impressive.

Time for the naysayers to wind their necks in.

Hyudia at first glance, although i would say that was a very gooding looking car in its time!More important though is how long will it look good,i dont think so any manufacturer could have designed this, shame i am a TOYOTA BIG FAN.Perhaps in real life it may be different.
