Anyone catch the last issue of Octane with the 924s in it? Any good?

I missed it.

ah, worth a little more than I thought. My favourite picture from the kop hill climb this year and my screensaver.

From looking at http://www.924gt.com/ I guess this is the GTS with the perspex headlight covers?

What a stunning car.

Had a black CGT in the late 80's. Great car ahead of its time, easy 150MPH plus performance with 30+MPG all the time, brilliant for a 2Litre engine at the time. Only downside was the interior finish and dogleg first gear, which took a bit of getting used to. The brakes were a bit marginal too for sustained abuse. Another of the cars I wish I'd kept!!!!!! Interesting comparison with the Toyotasubaru thingamyjig. 2 seats, 2Litre, 200BHP, 150MPH etc etc. Know which one I want.

I remember these (924 GT) coming out in 1980 , at the same time as the Audi quattro and the BMW M1 , and I vowed to have one . I bought my German spec lightweight car LJH566W about 8 years ago from Gmund , but not before having a memorable test drive in a GTS (GTS2W) , which was fabulous .
I loved my car , selling only when more children came along , but it was one of those cars you had to be in the mood to drive quickly with a typically laggy 80's turbo etc . I preferred my 944 for usability , but the 924GT always attracted attention wherever it went .

its nice, but is it worth all that money over a 968 or 944 turbo s? both have similar chassis and power outputs (although slightly less lairy bodies)
Its the daddy of your 944/968

My brother has a black 924 GT - fabulous but as someone said before typical eighties turbo - very laggy but once blowing really packs a punch for a 30 yr old car.

He bought it from autoclassica in Knaresboro' in 2003/4 - they had his car and a GTS (GTS 2W I think!) up for sale which were owned by the same guy. He was offered the GTS for £24K - but was LHD and had perspex windows, he felt it was too compromised for his daily drive which the GT was for a couple of years. As you can imagine with the prices today maybe the comprise would have been worthwhile.

Still the GT is a great car and is interesting to compare with my 968CS - similar but very different!

If I was a millionaire then something like this would definitely be in my garage.

Rare, race-bred and supremely cool.

Derrick Bell strikes me as a nice bloke as well (not just from this article).

I had a '90 944 Turbo SE, it was fast and very balanced at the limit, massive fun to drive. It also used a litre of Mobil 1 with every tank of petrol when driven hard, which was often. I drove it from Vienna to Galway in one go, spending a lot of that time at 163mph and a lot of time topping up the engine oil!
