Lego is a great toy. You can start kids on it when they are just babies, and then it grows with them until they start to appreciate it for it's ability to model engineering concepts.

I used to make home-made radio-controlled cars with it when I was a kid, splicing lego and Tamiya items together to make some crazy buggies.

I had this one...about 16 years ago. Even back then it was about £100!

Mitsubishi used that kit to build the 3000 GT !

Usually Christmas for me is mundane stuff, novelty tat and somethign I have bought myself in November that my wife then keeps from me and wraps up for Christmas but a few Christmassses ago my wife got me the Lego Enzo, the big one and instead of that squashy parcel that contains ineviatably clothes or something her mum has bought her and given to me to unwrap (as my present) it was a big box that made a satisfying noise, I was instantly taken back to being an 11 year old boy, full of excitement and joy at receiving a big box of plastic, a few happy hours later it was built, honestly it was one of my favourite Christmas memories as I wasnt expecting it at all.

I had that, must have been about 8 when I did it. Defo my favourite kit I had. Edit - infact, its still 90% intact on top of my wardrobe missing a wheel and opne seat is different to the other.

Also had the bardcode truck and a remote control helicopter/dinosaur which was awesome. The K'Nex roller coaster was incredible too - original one anyway.

The thing with modern lego, theres too many specialised parts specific to each build.

The Unimog is on my ultimate 'boys toy' wish list. I have a sneaky feeling that I may be getting this for Christmas:

My brother-in-law got me this as an early Christmas present:

I got to build it twice - once over in the US before dismantling it and rebuilding it back in the UK.

Pah they are kids toys. I'm building these with my two sons at christmas.

http://tiltedtwister.com/robots.html

I'm building the rubics one, my ten year old is building the suduko solver, and my 13 year old is building the clock for his bedroom.

I'd tell you how many NXT's we have in the house but It'd be a bit embarrising.

Probably the best gift I've ever received, besides my kids. Back in 1982 I was given a "8860 Car Chassis" for Christmas. I was over the moon.

By the age of 25 I was a chassis engineer, which I've been since. Still loving playing with cars.
