I hope no one is thinking I was implying that the car/computers drive it for you. I just found it funny that someone was moaning about losing direct, mechanical driving when talking about the Evo, as most of them do have a lot of processing power.

Depends how you define "most of them" only the 7 onwards(IIRC) have more than AYC helping the driver out.

I don't really know that much about them, tbh. Is AYC not computer controlled?

Yes, it is computer controlled, but the way you put it makes it sound like theres a cray supercomputer in the boot of the car

I really rate AYC, the way it brings the back end in when in steps out by keeping your foot on the gas and pointing it in the direction you wanna go never fails to impress, but I can see how purists and those doing motorsports prefer the consistency and driver control of the RS diff. I believe tho that like for like AYC cars are proven marginally quicker round the track but less reliable especially in high powered Evos.

Doubtful, we're talking about specifically designed hardware, not consumer level computing hardware. Not having a go at you here, it just seems a little clarksonesque when people mention EVOs and GTRs for the amount of electronics they have. I'm pretty sure that modern ferraris don't cop the same flak for having myriad electronic systems handling the gearbox, traction control and launch control.

Different rules for when Ferrari/The Germans do it.

XitUp said: So you could buy an RS, and then spec it with all the things they took off? Pretty much. My RS came spec'd thus: Brembos + 17" wheels AYC ACD Air-con ABS Taxi Spec interior. But I don't think you could add rear wiper or electric windows though and they key benefit, IMO, of the RS is that they have no sound deadening, which makes the car more visceral. Evo's hide speed too well IMO and in an RS you feel less isolated from the speed. Mine now sports GSR seats ralliart dampers were swapped for a set of EXE-TCs. Oh, and the earlier models had a different turbo, more suited to motorsport - Ti wheel as opposed to inconel, which is lighter so spools faster. Not sure whether the IXs had a different tubby though. Perversely they seem to now fetch a premium despite being the poor relation when bought new.

Please don't mistake me for a Clarksonite, it makes me want to kill myself, I can't stand the . I wasn't having a pop at the evos, I like 'em. Agree about the Ferraris, I wouldn't call them a direct, mechanical drive either. I'd still like to have a rag in one though, just like I would with an evo.

Takes readings from throttle, steering, and G force sensors and decides how much of the rear torque goes to the left or the right wheel. Is very good at eliminating understeer, I really like AYC but its not a "driver aid" as such, it doesn't attempt to stop you from crashing or spinning like a stability program. In fact, if you look at the working of AUDIs new "sport differential" that they now offer, its very similar to AYC. AYC: http://www.lancerregister.com/faq/G04/g04.html

Indeed, it's also a common misconception that Evo's have traction control. The I-IX certainly don't. The most they have is AYC (basically a torque vectoring rear diff), ACD (a centre diff that locks/unlocks electronically) and S-ABS (super ABS). That's it. Too many people have fallen for the clarksonisms.

Exactly AYC is much more manly than traction control - it's designed to make you go faster by sending more power to the opposite wheel

You fan boys need to stop getting so defensive. I never said you did. I just agreed with you that you dont know much about them as per your previous posts. My second sentence refers to "anyone that says they are like playstations" obviously this does not include you unless thats what you think. Perhaps its you that needs to stop getting so defensive.

Anyway, the Evo would be better if it was NA or an auto.
