My friend had a Riken tyre on his Corsa, the other 3 were Events.

Every journey was certainly an 'event', you were relieved to finish a journey alive!

marangoni made the best ever list 1a hill climb tyre before people were allowed to use list 1b tyres and it was called the scudo "stunner"

Just looked up Riken, as I wasn't sure where they were from.

They make a tyre called the 'Riken Maystorm' hehe

My mx5 had three uniroyals and one Riken (which was on the n/s rear). That certainly made for interesting handling - rock steady turning right out of a junction, or a wildly spinning inside rear and slidey exit when turning left. I think I'm probably the only person to have improved the handling by fitting Maxxis tyres (which were also rubbish - but at least a matching pair!)

Just got home after having to change a wheel on a dark, flooded quayside.
Plus point is, it was a Wanli Yokohama copy, which a girlfriend had fitted. Don't know why the damn thing went flat (dark) but now have a reason to fit something that has some grip in the wet.
"Death by Understeer" would be a more appropriate name.

GT and Accelera are Indonesian, and receive technology and R&D information from Michelin and Continental respectively in exchange for access to all those rubber plantations.
Based on my experience of GT Champiros, they should renegotiate - Michelin must be shafting them.

I once had a "matador", which is very poor, as it means "killer" in Spanish.

I had a Pug 406 v6 Coupe with "Hero" tyres on the front. They were awful, lots of roadnoise yet enter a corner at any kind of speed and they'd understeer you off the road. Hero indeed.

I think VW fit Matadors as standard to some of their cars. An ex's 06 Polo had them on from new and they where distinctly average.

Ahhh yes, I can relate to that as her Audi has on the back... one Goodyear Eagle F1 and one Semperit (?) Snowtyre. Comedy handling at its best, depending on the weather conditions and which way you're turning.

My mate fitted a set of Goodrides to his chavalier a few years back , suitable in a straight line until he turned a corner as the exact speed he would in any other tyre , and promptly fell off the road.

Nankang, affectionately known by tyre fitters as Gangbangers.

I have one on the back of the Lexus and it is less st than the DoubleStar that mirrors it. The difference in grip and an open diff makes for interesting handling.

I had some Nankangs on the back of a 205. The sidewall flex was massive and as the weight transfered when changing lanes, for example, you'd noticeably have to compensate with the steering. It was like having 2 inches of lateral play in the back axle. Not exactly what you want on a car well known for having a lively back end!

Probably 20 years ago a friend had a mini that had a "Tomato" brand tyre on the back of it. It had a rather odd slogan moulded into the sidewall as well, clearly a Japanese (Chinese?) translation, which went something something like "Tomato tyre make happy girl and boy". Never seen another one since.

I was about to bring up the Dai Yungs. I had a bike with them fitted as standard. Terrifying.
