Ring times, what a load of bollarks!

Without any consistency in testing it's an irrelevant benchmark to gauge performance with anyway.

Nice to see Nissan have oodles of money to send people to the Ring to piss about setting a lap time to let customers feel better about themselves because of a lap time they will never achieve themselves hehe

Just because it has a lot of both grip and traction doesn't change anything - the limits are higher that's all. Just like a GT3RS 4.0 has higher limits than a 1963 2.0 911.

Or perhaps you fit 5.2x14 cross-plies to your cars in order to demonstrate what a true-spirit-of-evo-magazine driving hero you are?

One day, "the internet" will realise that there are more than 2 polar-opposed views on any one topic and that one person's view is just that - their view - and worth nothing in the bigger picture, whatsoever...

Nissan have piled technology into their car because they can - they clearly see the driver as the weak link, the uncontrollable part of the equation, and so they are working around it.

Their customers are happy with that (presumably or they'd not buy them) - if you don't like it, don't buy one - end of.

Remember there's potentially more technology in a 997 Turbo (torque vectoring etc).

Come on guys, don't be bringing facts and reality into the thread.

The 2012 Nissan DLR, It does all the driving for you. No thanks
ANd you drive what exactly? If your car has any of the following please STFU and GTFO
a) power steering
b) servo'd brakes
c) ABS
d) TC/ESP
e) a manual gearbox with synchros (cos you're not really driving unless you're double clutching every upshift)
f) power windows
g) etc., et al.

Saying that the Nissan GT-R does all the driving for you is like a motorcyclist saying that all cars are boring because they isolate you from the world, or a cyclist saying that all powered forms of transport are uninvolving. Its fundamentally stupid and blind.

That being said, would I rather have say a secondhand GT3 RS over a GT-R? Yes I would. But can I understand someone buying the GT-R as a somewhat 'anonymous' but ridonkulously fast daily driver? Yes I certainly can.

If I were in the position or of the disposition to buy the 911 Turbo, I'd much rather have a GT-R as there's no badge snobbery, its much cooler (imho of course) and is much cheaper, not to mention the (slightly) lower running costs

The only reason these stories appear on the front page is to generate more forum traffic - the idiots who have never even sat in one say things like the above, others counter, the thread ends up twenty pages long.

Pointless.
Oh really. What if I said I had the fortunate pleasure of having experienced a 650hp one?

Mate - if you can't enjoy a 650hp GT-R then what are you doing here? Perhaps there are better cars, or more involving cars but a 650hp GT-R (or even the first 485hp R35 one) sounds like fun to me!

It got sold. 800HP R34 GTR and 800hp supras are more fun. They require some concentration to actually drive at WOT unlike the relaxed and composed GTR

But u do realize the relative ignorance of your initial statement then? Motorbikes require a lot more concentration to ride at crazy velocities (or even subsonic speeds) than cars but that doesnt mean that a car like a GT3 RS relative to a bike "drives itself" because it doesnt fall over when stopped.

I've owned Skyline GT-Rs; the last one I had made around 700 bhp. It was a handful and it was fun, but the new GT-R is light years ahead.

Maybe I need a thicker chest wig.

Love the skyline, these new imporved uber models bring the second hand skyline market within reach of the masses - they are quite fast enough.

Indeed, a car can talk in other ways. A good car will talk to you even at 1/10th.

It has to be said though, where does the grip element become excessive.

Right now it's happening in tyres to a silly extent. Every new tyre offers more grip, stability and poise in all conditions, however, I am left wondering if it's actually making my car less interesting to drive. It's all small degrees.

Part of me would prefer my summer tyre to last 20% longer and have 20% less outright grip. I'd get cheaper thrills and more smiles per pound!

I'd love to have a proper go in a GTR on the road, and give it some beans, but part of me thinks I'd still find a little 106 Rallye just as much *fun*

2.7 to 60 sounds like great fun. That's almost as quick as a motorbike! wink

I suppose if I had the money I'd get an Atom supercharged, as that has similar acceleration, but seems a bit more "mental" to me. Obviously comparing apples and oranges, but that's what I'd choose.

I find it wrong that nissan promote the fantastic 0-60 times which are only so good because of the use of launch control but say that if you use the launch control it registers this on the ecu and all gearbox related warranty is void
