sebhaque said: Something I forgot to mention - when you park up, if you leave the indicator stalk indicating left or right, the corresponding sidelight and taillight will remain on. It's meant for just illuminating one side of the car when parked on a dark road etc, quite handy - and only found it when I accidentally hit the switch when trying to extract a CD from outside the car! Something I've noticed on Vauxhalls and VWs I've owned, but not on anything else.

I must be the only one who, upon purchasing a car, spends hours examining every crevice, corner and cubby! I also read the manual on the first evening of purchase. I like to know what i have.

Bought a s/h Cortina from a dealer in the 80's. A year later I realised that he offside hub caps were a slightly different pattern to those on the nearside.
Also read stories of people who could never remember their number plate correctly. Turns out the front and rear plates had the same letters and numbers but not necessarily in the same order, presumably one plate had been replaced at some time.

This is so one can lock the car when filling up apparently. I found this out after complaining to dealer that it wasn't working correctly. RTFM in future I suppose! lol...I called the dealer with the same issue when we first got ours!

That on a Volvo 740 you can, if you flip a couple of levers, open the bonnet to fully vertical.

Found a flare in my JDM Impreza (clipped in to a special bracket under the glove box).
Apparently they are mandatory in Japan as a warning device if you break down.

Renault Megane has under floor storage compartments on the driver's and passenger's side. The car is nearly 2 years old and it's the first time I've moved the mats to vacuum.

I had one as a hire car once, and managed to find the drivers side one in the 2 days I had it - primarily because of the horrible crunching sound when I got out of the car one day

I bought a brand new Ford Capri 3.0S in 1978.
I always thought there was a bit of a lump under the carpeting in the drivers footwell, but never bothered too much...... Upon investigation six months after purchase I pulled the carpet up and found a band new complete clutch pedal, minus footpad (on it's side) which had obviously been there since it left the factory in Germany.

I know someone who took their new Ford Orion in to have a CD fitted only to be told that it had a 6 disk changer in the boot already

My car was previously owned by my Dad's wife, who got it in early '04. She considered replacing the BMW Business cassette player with an aftermarket CD player, but never around to it. I got it in early '09, and found a CD changer in a carpeted pull-down compartment in the boot. When I excitedly told her what she'd been missing out on in the six years she had owned my car, my little brother, who was eight when she got it, casually mentioned that he knew all about the CD changer because he remembered the dealer showing it to him when she test drove it!

I've had the car over 6 years! BMW 5 Series? Nope, Renault Clio - I checked a couple of times to make sure it wasn't just an electrical glitch!
