My wife ran one of these V6 from brand new in '03 to '09. Did 95k untroubled miles - though some of the service costs were a bit high, but still a good car and actually sounded quite nice although I didn't find it that exciting to drive and the ride was very firm.
She liked it so much that she traded it in for an Siii 2.0 model in '09, which Hyundai were selling brand new as run-out models for just under 11k at the time. Bargain for a brand new car of that shape with good spec, which has also to date been faultless.
Good solid shed.

Hints of Daytona?
Wrong dancing donkey, surely.
It's the 456 they copied...
Seem to remember these V6s are fearsomely thirsty. Perfect Shed
Lights at the front and grille. But I see your point about the rest of the car...Wrong dancing donkey, surely.

Peak horse power is not the full story when comparing engines, after all that is one measurement at one rpm point.
If you overlaid the dyno graph of a V6 making 170hp with a peaky N/A 4pot making 170hp you would find the V6 made more power and torque more of the time, especially at lower rpm making for a faster car in the real world where people are accelerating from low revs 30-80mph.

Like the shape, always have done.
Looked at one for the OH a couple of years ago, taken in p/ex by a Ford main dealer. It must have been a 1.6 because I'm over 6' and I don't remember any headroom issues. It seemed very well made and the engine was sweet if a little breathless, again must've been the 1.6. But there was a problem with the clutch that it made it impossible to form a good driving impression and the dealer said he'd only fix it if we gave him a deposit. Who's going to give a deposit on a car that, at that stage, drove terribly? Walked away and bought something else entirely...
Bit off topic I know, keyboard ran away with me...

Ne neither, seems good value.
That'll be the effect of £1.30something per litre petrol prices, 20mpg (at least that's what I used to get in mine) and the expiration of Hyundai's famous 5 year warranty.Still good value though, without a doubt. I had a black 2.7 V6 manual a few years ago and loved it - very well put together, nice sound from the engine and very smooth, if not particularly brisk, performance. It did feel a little cumbersome with the big V6 up front, but still good fun.
Personally, I think the 2 litre is a more balanced car in terms of performance, handling and running costs, but for £1000 you can't go wrong!

No, wait... that's Saab.
The guy who runs my local Indian restaurant has one and loves it. He gave me a lift to the pub in it one night when I couldn't get a taxi and the took the opportunity to show me what it could do. TBH it wasn't that impressive, but for a grand I would be impressed. And it's not horrible looking.

Definitely going to be one of these to replace my Puma later this year, seeing as the early Gen 3s are now down to around a bag of sand I might just wait a little longer and splash out on a nice SIII for around £4k.
Interesting- we chopped mrs's coupe in for a puma!Excellent car, bomb-proof do nothing to-it reliability and an excellent cruiser, I used to say it was more like sailing a yacht than driving a car! Total lack of bumps and seats like a lounge armchair!
The puma is a superb car, probably different in every way. It's more frugal and not as good a cruiser (high seating position, hard seats and 4k revs@ 70mph see to that) but an excellent handler for £850 we paid!
That said, our next car will be the T3 new model hyundai coupe currently sitting at about £3k (not for long!).
Good choice!
I have been wondering if these had completely slipped under the radar for most people as I to noticed decent low mileage V6 for barely £1k. The amount of kit you get and the perception of it being a new car must make it a worthy contender for a shed that wouldn't get too much stick for being a old wreck.
V6 + 6 speed is a bonus and ought to make it faster in the real world.
Oh and for reference the Hyundai coupe outsold the BMW 3series coupe & Merc CLK so there are lots to choose from.
