If you were given a pass the classifieds test forum is still there (just very quiet).

We were saying the same thing! A few new links dropped in there but light on comments from the testers. Would welcome the feedback. New site looks great, a real step on from what you saw in 2011. Look forward to sharing more later...and yes, we do look at other sites too so have seen the eBay thingy.

Interestingly, traffic for the site in general has just topped 4m uniques and that's a new record, with the classifieds taking the lions share of that traffic too. Certainly not quiet in terms of traffic or ads placed at the moment.

Not quite, they were the standard wheels for the 545i, optional upgrade on six cylinder SEs.

Poverty spec E60 wheels are 2" smaller than that...

Is it poverty? Leather memory seats, PDC F+R etc? Looks alright to me. Mind you if I wanted a Spanish 5 series for 4k...

You know me better than that - wouldn't be paying full £4k! wink

And as nice as the V8 would be, that one is in another land and possibly fairly ropey. Plus the benefits of an extra 8 or so em pee gees in return for half a second to 60 (and some burble) sounds like a decent trade.

Was simply amazed with how they managed to balls up the climate on the E60. They went from the E39 which had standard fit dual zone digital climate control across every model bar the cruddy ES to a standard fit system with crap plastic twirly knobs and half the features missing.

Just... why?

Infact, that sums up the entire E60. Just... why?

Nope, the iDrive's only climate function is the vent temp over-ride (the thing thats controlled by a knurled wheel on the E39/E46 and the E9x and tellingly, the F10) and the 'programme' (ie, soft, comfort, etc). No temp settings etc.

It's crap. The basic system doesnt have things like a sunload sensor, a fogging sensor, etc etc..

Still, the cheap crappy knobs key in well with the rest of the interior ambience.

The proper climate requires you to go into the iDrive sub-menus to adjust the temperature of the face level vents. Yes, the ones which BMW has for years included a little wheel next to for temperature adjustment. They've gone back to the wheel on the F10.

ETA: I didn't realise that was the same on the normal ventilation - you beat me to it.

It's not a bad climate control system overall (when it's fitted) but I am not looking forward to setting it up just so when I pick my E61 up on Friday.

Yes, I explained that above. It's the over-ride function - it isn't setting the temperature of the actual climate system. You can just chose to over-ride it and blow hot/cold instead. As you say, the same function that was for years provided by a little wheel and is once again provided by a little wheel. Yet another aborted experiment in the E60 tongue out

In truth the standard fit system of the E60 is perfectly adequate, it does most of what most people want even if it isn't as sophisticated as it could/should be.

For some reason all of BMW, Mercedes and Audi got very mean on this on their roughly overlapping model generations as both the A6 and W211 E-Class came with basic systems they charged a silly amount of money to get the full system on.
