In truth the standard fit system of the E60 is perfectly adequate, it does most of what most people want even if it isn't as sophisticated as it could/should be.
If you want 'adaquete' then a Ford Mondeo is not only 'adaquete' but far better value for money. You expect more from this level of car - and a climate control system that cannot detect when the windscreen needs defogging, cannot allow for the heating effects of sunlight and is controlled mostly with 3 crappy plastic knobs with bits of text for you to guess which temp you want has absolutely no place on a car in this class. It'd be adaquete in a Focus.

Especially when the model before had it as standard! I think they fixed it on the LCI - all the decent LCI's seem to have 'Advanced' Climate Control as standard. Still has a rubbishy control interface though.

The interface in the E90 is far nicer - such a shame the LCI E60 didnt get the E90's climate panel instead. Works well, has a proper digital readout, etc etc.

The system in the E90 is superior, which is presumably why the one in the F10 is more like the E90 one than it is the E60 one..

A decent climate control system requires next to zero user input once it's set up anyway - just the odd twirl of the knurled wheel to over-ride vent temp from time to time. Obviously with the E60's system you'll be fiddling more often to take into account the lack of sun load sensor etc tongue out

I think it's more of a case that you just don't know how to use climate control.

I've driven loads of E60's and yes, it isn't perfect, but I've never really found the HVAC inadequate, sort of does the job and isn't a reason not to buy the car. The E39's system isn't that great even if on paper it seems better.

Once upon a time you didn't even get aircon from BMW or Mercedes but you got a car which did 200,000 and lasted 20 years. In many ways, I'd prefer it if they gave one big rotary knob and made them last like they used to again and saved on some of the gadgets but it isn't what the market wants so they never will.

The E60 is something of a mixed bag and some aspects are a step back from the E39 but it is not one way and it shouldn't be considered inferior as in some ways it did make some steps forward.

Honesty, I'm not an idiot. That was iPad fkwittery of the highest order.

Corrected above.

However, I will stand by my love of knobs.

Eta- you think knobs are bad, try an air cooled Porsche. I have no idea how the H/V works, its more complicated than the dishwasher.
I assumed heating would be from a jumper and ventilation from the windows - as per 911V Henry's web caveats re. ageing Pork AC.

That's about the long and short of it, yes...
Explains why its more complicated than the dishwasher. Surely she just needs asking to do the dishes.

Jonny, there is a very cheap (1400) 540 auto on the 5 forum...
Looks nice but bearing in mind the mileage and little things he mentions - including no MOT - I'm not sure its cheap enough for someone who isn't really after one. And its in Teesside (wherever that is wink )!

Hmmm. I've started to feel a little click through the gear lever when depressing/releasing the brake pedal whilst stationary in park. Rather curious. Is it about to implode?

Simple system to prevent you going out of park and into drive when the brake is not applied.

Yes, I realise that functionality is there of course, however I haven't detected this clicking before. Was wondering if some linkage somewhere was working itself loose.

I feel it a lot. I have had several cars do this. Nothing related has ever broken.

Same, always there on my BMW autos'

Where has everyone been today? I've been sorting IT problems and come back expecting to have missed 6 pages, not 6 posts.

Wonder where this one will end, not the most detailed advert ever for such a car - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIte...

Happens in my 5 too. Noticed it American hire cars too.

Are you taking it out of D more waiting in traffic, since there is fuel issue going on? I tend to knock it into N in London traffic. Is this a bad thing to do?

I did read something about the way the cooling system works and this does not operate when you are not in drive. I think taking it out of drive when slowing down is easier on the brakes and therefore a lot easier in terms of wheel cleaning. Try it. The car slows down with much less pressure on the brake pedal.

Following earlier posts and Mr. Harris's video a quick browse of SL's

Didn't realise they were abundant in thread budget - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3737334.htm,http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2996831.htm

Though I'd actually prefer this, my kids love them as well - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3002471.htm (I'm assuming it means 2012 for the MOT?)

Meanwhile, back in BMWland, always had a soft spot for these ever since they came out (got the brochure somewhere from the Motor show) - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3652732.htm, but think my budget would be happier with this - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3644495.htm
