It's even for sale outside a warehouse. What more could you want.

If you're going to get a V8 that drinks like a fish, you might as well get one which has extra uneeded weight to really hammer consumption.

http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

"Price dropped for quick sale" ((though not dropped enough I'd say) - http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

£2K CL - http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Or from the garage that apparently you can never trust, either some honesty or the tip of the Borkberg - A Y Plate S6 Avant for 2.5 bags - http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Kids on holiday next week so might treat myself to Chips & Curry at Northampton Auctions on Tuesday night to see what barge prices are doing in the trade.

Apart from it having "Protection" in the advert, is there anything to suggest it actually is a Protection model?

I like it either way...

Is that still for sale? At least he's given in and dropped it £500.

They also have a 1999 V 528i SE for £3k, 90,000 miles is described as "ultra low mileage"!

Yeah, ultra low, is that...

My 540 is identical to the blue one, even down to the mileage. Oh, except mine's silver. And a year newer.

Anyway, the point I'm making is that I paid £3k for mine last year, which makes that one look a bit on the heavy side. That was for sale when I was looking for an E39.

Come on then: let's give the rest of the afternoon over to finding the most awesome pile of V8-ness we can within the thread budget!

£5295 so haggle. Not as heart-tuggingly awesome as plenty of V8s in budget but you might actually consider buying it for real.

I applaud your sentiment, but why stop at a V8? (OK, technically it's no longer the afternoon; yes, I've only got a straight six; and yes, your name hints at your proclivities...)

Be that as it may. Surely a V12 is the logical conclusion for bargistas. What about this fella?
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

Am I alone in thinking that E38 750's have recently become commonplace at the upper end of thread budget? Does this make it any more of a good idea?

Bad form to do consecutive posts, but it's all gone quiet. I've no experience of such matters (Mr Zwölf jokingly suggested going to visit the seller with a handgun and asking to do a simple test- I think he was joking...) but the windows would be the giveaway. They would be massive slabs of double glazing, with 20mm plus in each layer. I believe there's normally a dark border around the edge of the windows.

My betting is that this isn't. (Price says it certainly isn't- it would be a first in budget. They are normally a rarity in the 5-20 thread, never mind here)

Some genuine E39 Protection B4's:

Surely if it's real and at that price it's already been bought and loaded onto a boat to South Africa or somewhere?

managed to remember to work out the MPG on the 182k Lexus this week - I was expecting low 20's but its doing just under 19.

I can see why these cars are so cheap at the moment.

So I am looking at a new barge to replace the e430, something slightly more frugal.

Looking at

Honda Accord Cdti
Saab 9-3 tid
V70 D5
Mazda 6.

I know these are all diesel, but what about experiences? I really love the motorway comfort of the merc, so don't want to scrimp there, but it doesn't need to be such a huge estate.

I seem to have acquired a more economy-minded motor too.

Only 2.3 litres and five cylinders. So far enjoying mpg beginning with a three. hehe

even 3* mpg would be good.

The merc seems to do 22 ish if I do 60 or 100 leptons on motorway.

I suspect a Golf V5 isn't barge-ish enough for this thread, but I like them. Very sonorous.
