I've not heard of an autobox packing up on one, catastrophic engine bork or rot. Cambelt is non-interference. Suspension gubbins, flickering dials, broken a/c.

V8Wagon said: V8 Merciness for £2.5k. Looks like VFM, but are this era 'E' classes rubbish? They were very rusty. My dad has had several new-ish E class Mercs, and this was the nadir. It was charismatic- probably the one I liked most- but he had to repair rust when it was only 4 or 5 years old. Shortly after there was a second dose, and he moved it on.

Shame that as it looks like a nice modern family saloon which must have a schizophrenic personality with a whopping 4.3 V8 under the bonnet.

My w210 e430 seems to be fairly rot free, other than the usual wing bubbling. Front cross member has been replaced at some point. I like the barge for wafting around in, but the v8 is soulless and less willing to pick up than my bro's 540 e39, but its a deceptive quick. Passed its MOT this month with no advisories so not bad for a 14 yr old car.

CB 987 said: Hi,
I've been lurking here for a while now, inspired by this thread I thought I had better make my first post a good one! I have just got back from picking up the Imola red Spanish E39 Sport that was listed a few pages. Such a great car, really wish I had made the decision to buy a barge sooner!
It is a two owner car, the previous keeper had it for eight years and purchased it at 3 years old as an Approved Used Car, its been garaged all its life, so no rust at all and has clearly been cherished. It came with about an inch of BMW receipts, all previous MOT’s etc, all but one of the service stamps are main dealer, turns out the sellers brother works for a main dealer and the car always went there if it needed anything. Recent work includes a new radiator, which is reassuring, the only slight issue is the rocker cover gasket appears to be leaking a small amount of oil at the front. From what I have read this should be an easy fix, managed to get £300 off though, hope this should cover it. Any advice on the cost of this and additional items to change as a precaution at the same time would be much appreciated.
All in all very happy, even managed to average 36.6 mpg up the M40 on the way home, which did surprise me. I will get some pictures up in the readers' cars section when I get a second.
Cheers
Chris Nice. And thanks for ensuring I did one less stupid thing this coming week.

What's funny is that if you ever meet Alan (the owner) he's about as far from a chav as is possible to imagine. The black wheels aren't to my taste, but that and the fixed-mode EDC aside, it's a decent car.

Chris Finally, we're getting away from those nasty Saabs, and back to where we should be. Get it up in the BMW forum too!

No, they're by no means rubbish and were/are a very close competitor to the E39 and are better in some ways. What they do do is rust, not so much in essential places but they can end up looking very tatty. Find a well looked after one which has had the rust sorted and they are excellent although they are few and far between.
