I first read and assumed that you were looking for a value on your own car but upon going to AT to see what others are going for it appears that you are asking about the value of a car on there.

Its the cheapest 300 Sportcross on AT so whatever someone will pay. If I was looking, I'd be looking to see how close I could get some of the more expensive ones to that price - not a fan of the modified look and ad is sparse on detail.
Wisebuyers puts it at £4K retail which seems very steep to me - http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/index.jsp?guide=prices...

I tend to find Wisebuyers the most accurate online guide (just checked E39 values and for mine it seems about right) but as the previous poster says then better to look at AT/Pistonheads/Ebay and see what others are going for. You could watch others on ebay and see what they sell for to get a realistic idea. Or just haggle. My Dad got £1800 off a £6.5K BMW Convertible simply as the guy had it for too long and winter was approaching, he'd expected to have to haggle or for the guy to think over it but his low ball offer was accepted straight off (he'd made it clear that's all he could afford).

If it's been there for sometime the guy might take a low offer, and I expect cars like that are getting harder to shift as I mentioned in an earlier post. That said they may not, local dealer refused to budge on a car a friend was looking at, 3 months later it went to auction.

I can't find the car being referenced, but this (previously posted) looks like a good option if you're in the market. Low miles, one owner, and under £3k before haggling:

I've always loved these even when they were new.

is it just me or is that bloody pricey - OK, it's in a dealer but still it's a good £1000 over it's value surely??
Depends.

I'd hazard a guess that they're retailing it as they supplied it new, to its only owner, have serviced it all its life, inspected it now as they would any other aproved used stock car and found it up to par, maybe having carried out a service and fitted a set of tyres etc and are a bit of a more reassuring vendor than a Fleabay "private trader" and so on.

Buy a £2k one in need of a service/other maintenance and a set of tyres and there's your £1k already. At least they've not applied a hexagonal sort of premium.

Twas me who posted that one. I'm a big fan of such Lexi and from what I've seen over the years there do seem to be a lot of low mileage ones about, I guess it's not a car that appealed (Big engine, auto only, tiny boot for an estate) to the company car market so most owned privately, and generally held onto for a long time.

In many ways would be the perfect car for my needs. If they did a manual (Mrs. GBB refuses to drive Autos) I'd have one like a shot.

Just spotted this, and it looks like a reasonable one:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

For someone looking for a £4k estate, the spare £1k would be handy in the Bork-chest.

Looks a bit battle-scared but provided its just the cosmetics that are rough it looks nice for £3k.

Hmm, I find myself toying with the notion of a cheap E39 again, having had several good experiences with sub £2k examples in the past, so...

Inexpensive 528i SE Auto with reasonable miles.

Looks great. £875 asking.

As does this one too.

Going up an engine yields an excellent sleeper in this 535i

Or going full-fat, this 540i looks tempting...

Two owner example for two bags

ALPINA kitted 540i

I love the colour, not convinced by what look very much like E34 ALPINA wheels instead of the Softlines that were contemporary with E39 though.

That, to me, looks like a great bargain. Have you nominated it for SOTW?

Does one nominate such things? I'd be happy to if there's a thread for doing so - once anyone who might be interested from this thread has a chance to go and take a punt first. wink

All look nice. On colour alone I'd be going for the 540 "Protection", if common sense took hold then the cloth 528i. As ever a phone call to each seller would probably start sorting the wheat from the chaff.

Prices will continue to dip, saw an 04 plate E60 530d with 102K (or thereabouts), very nice condition with 1 owner from new go through Mannheim N'ton tonight for £4,850 - so a thread worthy E60 diesel, and a good one at that, is that a first?

Sure there was an 04 545i up at one of the auctions today, wonder what that went for.

Plus buyer's fees, if it even went to a private punter and not a trader who'll have it on a forecourt for £6,995 next weekend. How many of us would be happy to buy at auction with all the drawbacks that go with the territory?

I appreciate it'll be worth it to a few, but E60 rules it out for me to a large extent and being a 100k diesel one does so definitively. What's interesting there is that logically a similar age, mileage and spec 525/530i will be comfortably under £4k for those confident enough to buy at trade...

Like slower 528's. Everything else about them - servicing costs, bork, fuel economy, is identical. They only make sense if you find a particularly good one because the 528 is a superior car in every possible way.
