What are the normal service intervals on E39's? That seems to have done quite a few miles (20k) and also some time (27 months) between some of the services. Is that still within the normal guidlines?

This looks quite good:

Double glazing has to be a win.

V8's seems to run 20K intervals on the variable, at least that's what mine has as well.

That is a bloody excellent buy - especially if its all working as described. In fact the 1500 price tag worries me slightly - from the pics, the spec and the description he could/should be asking a bit more.
That just looks a right stunner. The ultimate Kensington cruiser.

I can see your point. A luxourious car with such good build quality and so many toys should be worth an awful lot more whichever way you look at it but the market dictates the price and that is around the going rate for one. Put it this way, I doubt it'll be up for sale for too long. I know if I didn't have the 540i I would have already given him a call...

Love the 500, in fact I am a bit twitchy about it in the wallet.

BB, I can't shake the feeling that it's sitting a bit low....is it just my eyes?

Ill be astonished if you will ever find a better looking/sounding example for 1500quid.

The seller is right in stating that the rear air-co is a rare option and its got all the other important toys. Its a P2 model so no wiring loom to worry about and the only M119 foible has been taken care of. If the air-co and soft close are working correctly that really is a true bargain.
Not questioning any of that at all, just asked about the suspension? Rest looks great as you highlight, but with another ex-Merc man to my right we had to ask.

ETA: BB, we met at the PH cigar night didn't we?

Right it is my car and I can confirm the suspension is fine, it is not the air system found on later cars so not sure what could even be wrong with it.

I think that £1500 is the going rate for one of these and (although I should not admit it) not much less than I paid two years ago. I do need to move it on fairly quickly as the Mrs is not so happy about our increasingly overcrowded drive.

The other option is of course to break it for parts, but again see point above about the unhappy Mrs and I don't really have space to store the engine and gearbox for any length of time

From what I could tell all the coil equipped (rather than air) W140s sag a little bit, usually more to one side than the other and always more at the rear. Merc even sell 'pads' of varying thickness for putting in the top of the rear turrets to even it out.

Nice car BB, if the OH wouldn't lynch me for having another W140 in the drive id be very tempted. Dont be surprised if someone like 4star buys this, tidy it up and re-list for something beginning with a 4 or a 5! For those who know W140s this is really a very good spec.
Nice car, priced sensibly in the current market. Suspension does look a little low but these (and most Mercs) break their springs reasonably frequently. Merc operate a points system based on specification to select correct spring for weight of car. In this case you'll probably find that its had pattern springs put on at some point in its past or the wrong spring pads - very common and nothing wrong with that. It's also compounded by the narrow wheels.

Get a set of 18" five spokes that were options on these and it'll look better.

A much better buy than the newer shape S Class with all the costly air suspension, rust and build quality woes and the reason I've hung onto my W140 CL500.

I can't stand that old Merc I have to say. The cruise stalk looks a nightmare (buttons on the wheel ftw) and it just looks on its last legs to me. (I realise it probably isn't!)
