I like his claim that 6 cylinder manual cars are rare. I'd always assumed manual Mercedes of this era were rare with good reason.
Sounds like a company car where the budget didn't stretch to Metallic or Automatic!

BUT....

All that said, I still find it appealing. Just not £2200 appealing.

What are those 190Es like with a manual box? A friend of mine had driven one and maintained it was like stirring porridge. Allegedly they are much better suited to an autobox but I've never been in the position to pass judgement.

Not great. You get used to it, but notchy was a word made for this era of 'box.

Indeed

Viewing is at the earliest convenience of the seller wink

I'm sure you're not going to attempt to steel, that would contravene the first rule of Barging
Haha! As much as I like it I think with an E38 750i and a recently acquired Alp B3 i've got enough on my plate at the moment!

My enquiry was to see if you had viewed/bought it yet!

ps - London is a bit more than 15 mins from me in a cab smile

That's a great question. I'm no Merc beard but on the face of it I'd go for either a 300CE-24 or a 500E.

A question I could ponder all day....

Unrealistic - 6.9

Realistic - E320 Sportline Cab

Rare, but would be great - W123 TD

hehe

My old Audi Coupe of similar vintage had a very vague gearbox, it just offered no feeling or feedback. Mind you I didn't think that at the time, smoking around in one of those at the age of 19 made me feel like the dogs danglies.

I utterly LOVE these old estates.

I want one, with the whitewall tyres and metal roof bars, and I want to fit a ridiculous engine in it.

Did they ever come with any great big engines?

The biggest capacity was the 300D but that suffers from being a diesel. The 280E was a 2.8L straight six with circa 170BHP, they went quite well.

There was an article on here a year or so back about someone fitting the 5.6 V8 from an S-class to a W123 and it seemed quite an easy job

Yes, I met someone doing this, I think to a W123 coupé rather than the estate though, he was mating it to an manual gearbox from an Merc ambulance (IIRC), he said the front suspension from the S class, that donated the engine, fitted across quite easily.

Practical classics did a 560 v8 transplant into a w123 a year or so ago, an easy 11 on the cool meter.

I'd be happy with the 300 turbo-diesel to be honest.
