Best Smoker Barges - 1 - 5 Large [Vol 3]
Discussion
While we're talking about Mercs, what's the verdict on one of these? Where do they sit in the drivability stakes compared to say an E46/39? Are they refined?

No, I'm being too kind. It was awful.
My old Audi Coupe of similar vintage had a very vague gearbox, it just offered no feeling or feedback. Mind you I didn't think that at the time, smoking around in one of those at the age of 19 made me feel like the dogs danglies.

Despite having no feeling towards that C class or much at all to that age of Merc, I currently really really want a C32 AMG.
Any Barge viewers looking to economise?

The biggest capacity was the 300D but that suffers from being a diesel. The 280E was a 2.8L straight six with circa 170BHP, they went quite well.
There was an article on here a year or so back about someone fitting the 5.6 V8 from an S-class to a W123 and it seemed quite an easy job

Practical classics did a 560 v8 transplant into a w123 a year or so ago, an easy 11 on the cool meter. There was an article on here a year or so back about someone fitting the 5.6 V8 from an S-class to a W123 and it seemed quite an easy job

I think this belongs here, easily handles the mileage.

So many Qs Ross, most answered in my profile. I'm not selling as such - although had the black C32 stayed up at £5k, I was ready to make an ad - but I do change often as the folk here know! Its a good example - manual and has great history so i'd like to see between £3-4k depending on how desperate I'll be to move it on.
if you still have it in 2 months time i may be interested, though not 100% sure yet. if it's still around and you want to sell, PM me....i want first dibs always wanted a 330ci.

They're not exactly rare so plenty about. As said anyone looking for one now would do very well to snap up the one the Colonel has.

Indeed although 41 manual Sports under £5k on AT. Assume another 30 between the other sites, throw in cars from the other end of the country, poor history and interesting mods and there aren't loads.

Yeah I was kinda typing out loud after searching for a 330i Touring. There's only 9 sub-100k Tourings between 2-5k, and 68 Coupes - so it's all relative! As said anyone looking for one now would do very well to snap up the one the Colonel has.

Wasn't the 2.8 straight six about 185bhp? I seem to recall it was around that figure, and I remember thinking as a kid that wasn't too bad for an old-tech, 12v engine...There was an article on here a year or so back about someone fitting the 5.6 V8 from an S-class to a W123 and it seemed quite an easy job

Looks good value though no interior pics?Looks like it's had the front wings done (std E46 problem) but the from the pics the match doesn't look 100%. Or it might just be the light.
