Fox- said: i can't quite tell, but is that an M5 front bumper? can't see the "strip" the non-M models usually have? oh - that looks bloody lovely. how many miles has it got on it now? if i were you, i'd be looking to run that into the ground....and if you keep looking after it as you are, that could be a VERY long time away yet. late E39 sports just look soooo "right" don't they.

It's a standard Sport front bumper but the lower grille is the M5 one.
It is now on 190k miles. I still love it, so I probably will keep it for a few more years. I've had it 6 years this year. My plan is to keep it until the day it stops feeling like a 'really nice car' and starts feeling like an 'old car' by which time an F10 535 M Sport will £20k or less.

I shall, will be helping it along its way with a few trips this year - up to the Highlands in a few weeks and over to Budapest in the Summer. Whether it will make it there and back bork-free is another matter

TallbutBuxomly said: What's the legality of a car business doing so. If they've described a car as "HPI clear" and it isn't, then there's an issue to raise with Trading Standards. Or as most people do, simply don't buy the car. Trading Standards said: When you buy a used motor vehicle from a trader, you enter into a legally binding contract and you are entitled to expect that it is of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. An older vehicle with high mileage may not be as good as a newer vehicle with low mileage, but it should still be fit for use on the road and in a condition that reflects its age and price.
Traders cannot take away consumers' rights by using terms such as 'sold as seen' or 'no refunds'. If you buy a used vehicle from a trader online, you may have additional rights under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000. You do not have the same legal rights if you buy a vehicle from a private seller or an auction. Ask to see their HPI report or certificate for that vehicle and check how recent it is. If they can't or won't show you it, then again - walk. Or do your own HPI check for £20 for your own peace of mind. If a trader or dealer knows a car they are selling is on the Vehicle Condition Alert Register as Category C or D (A and B should never be able to be sold), then in theory they are duty bound to mention it prior selling it to you as it's a material fact that may influence your decision to purchase or not. Diligent dealers and traders will do so, those who choose not to be honest about it - well, make your own opinion. However, there is no legal obligation for a dealer or trader to HPI check their own stock, so if they choose not to, then they are not privy to this material fact - however their due diligence could and should be called into question in the event of any subsequent disputes with a MoTP who has bought a car and discovered it is on VCAR.
