Indeed, though at 150 she dispatched about 20quids worth of fuel in an obnoxiously quick amount of time. I have a vid which I can post but, to be honest, it's pretty dull, it's just so refined. Still has a bit more in her but I didn't!

Fox- said: Is it really £2k for a torque convertor rebuild? Had heard just the torque converter was closer to £500ish? 5hp18, torque converter clutch is slipping causing debris going in through the tranny. You're confused with a 5hp19 which can be salvaged as its usually the seals in the torque converter which causes the clutch to just stay off, which makes the car think its slipping when it isnt.

Why do I find an E46 B3 3.3S more interesting than an E90? Why would I rather have a look around an E38 Sport than an E65? because way back when each new incarnation of a model brought with it new technology which made life easier, with better refinement and so on. i feel around the E46/E39/E38 era these cars had most of the "toys" which you actually need where most newer things are just, generally, gimicks (e.g. night vision, lane change assist etc). so, the newer cars may be a little more refined and have more toys but it's not as if the older cars are much worse unlike how it used to be, and the older ones are just better looking. IMO, the E46 facelift is one of the nicest, well-rounded shape they've done for a very long time. and well, need we say anything about the E39? the E38 is also a handsome car, if a bit understated. Digging up an old post here, but I was trying to PH 'search' (yeah, right) for E46 v E90... basically I drove an E46 325i Touring today and I liked it, but it was a bit wind noisy compared to the 525i I had just driven and certainly the E38. Must admit I liked the way the E46 drove though (it was a manual). Is the E90 more refined? I'm toying with nuking my budget entirely... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...Apologies for taking thread O/T for a bit

Also been a while since I've been in an e9x that wasn't an M3. But wind noise would be there same. Put it like this, the M3 is refined enough imo, interior a step down from the E38 though....

Hate crappy refinement, trim rattles and step down in build. Sell E92. Fall back in love with E39 and vow never to stray from the world of 5er ever again.

I was more impressed by the combined figure of 8.8mpg (I guess a typo).

I have got a 2001 E estate and the only places it is showing any signs of corrosion is where is has been dinged. Even the rear hatch is in good nick. The view from my local specialist is that the estates are far better than the saloons for rot.

I (think i) have decided to keep the E38 for a while longer now, at least another year probably. It's reliable, tidy, serviced (inspection 2) less than 5k ago. I'll probably get the power steering fluid and coolant changed soon though. Whilst I regularly wish I had a more fun manual car.... Friday night driving back from wales to Southampton through poor weather and a terrible diversion made me realise just how good it is at relaxing you. I may have done 0.95-1 leptons the whole way back after the diversions except the last 3-4 miles where I slowed it down to ease her back down.... It copes so well at those speeds, doesn't feel stressed at all. Oil was hot and less than 5k old so why not!

Well, for starters with a set of initials like that I think it's nowhere near £600-worth, and for seconds it's a liability to the tune of £105 to stick it on retention and sell it, so I'd be aiming to pay no more than £150 extra for the plate. Knock £150 off the asking price of the car too

I love the
"Faults are as follows: - Airbag light on. Have connected up to Alfa diagnostics & it needs the control chip replacing. Not a big or expensive job. - One of the rear door locks doesn't open with central locking (does manually). Again not a big job."
If neither are a big or expensive job, why exactly has a trader not got it done?
E38Ross, just buy another car to go alongside. That was my solution - I've now got V8 Waftiness plus top down fun courtesy of a (fairly tatty) MX5. Now the only problem is which to choose (or at least when the sun is shining) for less than the alternatives I was considering as 535 replacements.
We'll see how long these two last before the itch strikes again......
