I guess that makes sense, the guy just seemed iffy! Can anyone clarify this, I'm still not convinced!
Yes this is true. BMW use a mainframe which you can log onto from any BMW connected server (apart from after hours). It shows you when the car was ordered (from vin or number plate), what spec it has, when it has had 'dealer visits', how much it cost new etc. You also use it to place orders with the factory, keep an eye on their production and look for stock new cars nationally at other dealers etc.

BMW's version is very old school MS-DOS mainframey.

Seems fair enough, I'm just a bit frustrated! I wanted to get out and see some motors but no one wants me to see 'em.
Hopefully I'll have the bloke from available car call me back soon.

Any VW dealers out there?
I'm curious to know how you value p/x's? I was in a VW dealership, and the salesman was absolutely insistent that they're able to tell what optional extras are on the car from the registration. Which I ain't buying, can anyone clarify?
I don't work for VW but I'm sure they have a similar system and yes you can tell everything that car came out of the factory with (assuming the reg hasn't been changed after it's first registration of course) not sure why it's so hard to buy that!
At Audi (and all VAG dealers) we have a system that allows us to check spec, history etc of any VAG product.

Worse was yet to come though when we got it up on a ramp, he'd used No More Nails to glue the towbar on as the fixings were different on the new truck.

Can you gents/ladies drop a few more of these types of stories into the thread.
When I was at Vauxhall a few years ago, our disabled parking bays were right in front of the showroom. A motability customer comes in with a service enquiry, Daewoo Tacuma Auto (awful car), he gets back into his car to leave, 'thinks' he has put it in Reverse but had actually put it into Drive, looks back and accelerates........ straight through the window into the showroom, narrowly missing a Zafira. The glass cut through the arch of his car like a hot knife through butter, I dread to think what would have happened had somebody been looking at the Zafira for instance! Anyway, once the window was boarded up we thought of some great advertising to go on the boards - 'Parking Sensors from £299!'

Back on topic, I was in today, absolutely non stop, we shut at 4 and I didn't leave till nearly 5. Was a productive day with plenty to go on for the week ahead but no deals on the board, it's going to be busy this week, my diary is filling up very nicely. How did everyone else get on today?

In my second week at BMW I reversed a 523i into the main service reception window (it cracked in a massive spider web that spread to all four edges of an 9ft x 4 ft pane), the other side of which was the customer waiting area.

Such was the site layout and the necessary positioning of the cars, that Fives only had about an inch of leeway (too close to use PDC) and I'd only been driving a few months. £850 later...

It's certainly something you'd only do once! Lucky you didn't decapitate any customers!

Well today was a better day. Redeemed myself for yesterday's failures by knocking a couple of deals in. Also got a very promising lead to follow up tomorrow on a new MiTo. Couldn't close her today as she's wanting to drive a Mazda 2 for comparison... sounds like we're home and dry. Very attractive lady too. wink

Volvo have a system called QW90. From the Reg Number I can find out model, model year, engine spec, FFO's, plus things like when and where you had main dealer servicing carried out on your Volvo.

Blonde hair, early 20s, looking to buy an Alfa Romeo. Does the motor trade get any better? hehe

Anyone done the 'Level 10' sales seminar with Paul Cummings (interesting to say the least) or the 'Route to Profit' course with Gavin Reckless (lots of good stuff in that one).

I moved to the 'Darkside' (manufacturer) 5 years ago, but still miss the showroom buzz. Met the current Mrs.T in the showroom (she bought a car from me)...

Are you serious? It's not the lottery numbers or anything just the options a car has on it when new!
