"Is your parts dept open on a Sunday?"

No, sorry just sales I'm afraid. Parts back open 8am Monday.

"So you can't check if you've got a starter motor in stock for a '86 Starlet?"

No, sorry, I don't have access to the parts system. Im sure we would have to order it in anyway.

"So how much would it be?"

Sorry, I cant help im afraid.

"Well where am I supposed to get one from TODAY!?!"

I usually get one of these calls, at least once, or if I'm really lucky twice on my Sunday.
biggrin I love those, particularly the fact that they persist and want prices...
Occasionally feel sorry for the ones that have just taken their car to bits, need something halfords won't stock and are going on holiday/ to work/ to a wedding later....

Sundays.

Having assiduously avoided them for most of the last 12 years in the trade, I've had the "pleasure" of them these last few months in a volume dealer.

It's like trying to sell cars to the living dead/freshly lobotomized compared with every other day. Especially the influx of the final 20 minutes of the week.

Roll on 4pm...
Thought you packed in the motor trade?

Just a couple of 17 year olds wanting to test drive a Megane 265 today so far.

Haven't got one so they left disappointed and strangely didn't want anything other than a drive to 'see what they're like'

Who'd have thunk it?
Next time I'm in Cornwall can I test drive a Megane 265 or a Clio 200? On a serious note I will probably get one in a few years when the insurance is a bit less, quite fancy a nice Clio 200.

So glad we don't run Renaultsports of any kind anymore.

Or the service customers who want to know if we can fit them in tomorrow:

"Sorry but the service dept are closed today and I don't have access to their booking system"

"Surely you can check to see if there are any slots?"

"Errr no as I don't have any access to their systems, like I told you, I can get them to call you first thing though?"

Then they moan about how unhelpful I am.

When I'm actually ready to buy my next car, I'm going to find out which of you is nearest to me with the brand I'm after, and come and be your model customer.

Just because I'm nice.

Might be a while mind!

Good man! You'll also get good treatment as we all like dealing with nice people.

One thing I noticed when I started here nearly 5 years ago is how nice the customers are, very few chips on shoulders (unlike my time at Mercedes), very few chuckie duffers, very few liars, interesting swappers, interesting people.

Any Citroen dealers on here. How is the DS5 selling. It looks a really interesting car and something I'm considering as my next car. I had a faultless 407 coupe for 3 years, so don't have a 'French' phobia. smile
Not sure I'd pay £20+ grand for one though.

And, contrary to "expert advice" about avoiding the "tricks" used to build a rapport, you'll do better out of it too... The trip round the block will become an unaccompanied demo, the time spent underwriting the part ex will magically increase and thus, the value will.

Unfortunately we don't run either as demo, so no tongue out

My 200 sold a few months back (much to the delight of my bank bance) so that's not an option.

I've been off today but Sunday's are normally utter torture.

It's the half past four dreamers that do my box in.

Many moons ago when i worked with Renault, the 197 Clio had just come out and two young lads came in wanting to drive it.

'How old are you?'

17.

'I'm afraid your too young to drive it, but since we're quiet i'll take you out in it'

Ok.

On the demo, i made one of them so ill we had to stop so he could be sick. hehe

Good times...

I made one chap go very pale once when he'd dropped in his E36 M3 Evo and was taking him back in an E46 330Ci demo and he was banging on how it was crap as it was slower and stter handling than his M3 etc etc.

So I gave it the full 57 varieties as he talked a good drive up to that point. Evidently he'd never taken the M3 past 5k rpm as he went very pale and quiet.

Yes it was silly and immature, but so was I.

I started off with MG Rover, used to get young lads in wanting to buy ZR160s, they'd be telling you how they were the best driver in the world etc.

I'd take them out, I'd drive first, show them exactly what the car could do. By the time they got in they drove like your gran.

In a similar vein, the worst "excellent driver" I've ever sat alongside was a "police trained" driver (he was indeed an officer, but I get the distinct impression there's "Panda trained" and "motorway pursuit" trained...) who evidently thought he wasn't subject to the traffic laws (and it's hardly my place to remonstrate such a god is it?).

Guy drove like an absolute berk, quickly I can handle if it feels safe and the driver competent (as it does whenever I've been out with proper TrafPol and certainly in the case of a chap who trains those guys), but this was like being alongside an utter Asbionic lunatic.

Was a chucky duffer to boot, which made my day as you can imagine.

Or it's the ones still coming in at that time whilst you're trying to burn the 5 to 4 ones. hehe
