The Car Salesman's Thread

I have never bought a new car. And only 2 times a pre-owned one from a dealer.
So, what if I make if clear from the beginning that I dont want "paint protection", "mats" or any additional insurance (wiper rubbers, antenna, rear mirror misting)?
Tell the salesman as soon as he starts his presentation that you are not interested, however you might want to listen to info about GAP, smart ins etc if you don't know what they are.So, what if I make if clear from the beginning that I dont want "paint protection", "mats" or any additional insurance (wiper rubbers, antenna, rear mirror misting)?
Depending on your circimstances some might be of benefit to you?
I ended up last year buying a SLK for my wife from a Merc main dealer because after a month or 2 of trying I could't source the right car from within the trade. I didn't let on that I was a car salesman and let the Merc salesman do his thing and I negotiated hard and got a fairly hefty discount off the car (4 days before xmas). As soon as he started about F&I products I politly stopped him and told him I was fully aware of the benefits of GAP/Paint/smart/ etc and we would be wasting each others time to go any further. I also told him I would be delighted to give him an outstanding score on his customer service.
We shook hands, my wife and I left and collected her new car on xmas eve.

The dealership that I work in is small and in small town in an extremely wealthy part of the UK, many footballers and "celebs" live here,
So how many footballers and "Celebs" are buying Renaults?HTP99 said:

As for TVR1 Maybe Deva is winding you up but I have to say your attitude stinks!!!!!!!!
I think you're an idiot, or can't read.Deva is a troll. That's his only input on this thread.
Anyway, quiet day today. Was hammering down with rain today. Couple of appointments tomorrow so lets see what happens.
Had an atypically uneventful day, strange for a Friday - felt much more like wky Tuesday. Started with a lie-in and a trip to DVLA for a leisurely 10:30 start which was nice, other than that I've just made one appointment for tomorrow with a guy who's been on the go for a fortnight and has already driven the car in question and seen just the one forecourt customer turn up just before six wanting a test drive, they also came in at ten minutes to close last Sunday.
Disappointed that we couldn't accomodate them at this hour, I made an appointment for a colleague to look after them first thing tomorrow morning (I'm already booked). I have the distinct feeling that they'll still be here at lunchtime tomorrow and that they're Motab...

Do you guys not earn anything from Motability cars? I know it's been covered before but I can't find my answer.
Thanks
Depends on dealership. They count towards target and pay at the same rate as new retail deals at my place. Obviously affects finance/add on penetration though. Thanks

Yep, not a great deal however, well it used to be until the advance payments went to silly levels, it is a good easy steady stream of new car orders, on average I would do about 3 a month, I did my first one in about 6 months last week. Thanks

Scenic was our most popular, followed by Modus then Kangoo. Been very quiet since this time last year on Motab.

That said, the point he makes about how car dealers are viewed by Phers is reasonably valid, and I'd agree with him that some of the contributors on this thread seem more empathetic and customer-focussed than others.
I don't see how you could glean that information from any of the responses on this thread.
What we write (mostly between people in the same trade) on a forum has no bearing in how we act with or treat our customers.
The other thing that does not help is having our business models/sales methods criticised by people who don't work in the trade and have their experiences as customers to try and tell us what we should be doing, especially when someone like the aforementioned troll can't ever do it in a constructive manner.
I think we have all been open, candid and honest in this thread and answered every question as best we can.

Without trying to be aDeva troll, the paint protections really arn't that great, are expensive, and (i'm presuming....) applied by someone who preps cars for a dealership but isn't necessarily trained to the highest standard.

Some of the best car salesmen have no interest what so ever in cars. Its just a product to be sold.
If you don't want the product don't bullst just say no thank you.
