My favourite was my colleague Tony when I was at Nissan. Lovely bloke, oldish, bit deaf acted dull (but wasn't). Customer wants more off than is doable, Tony (shuffling and stacking papers in newsreader signing off style) "ah well, if you can't afford it.... " smile
Yeah, that would work...rolleyes
sometimes it did, it just got the conversation going again.

Finding this thread very entertaining/interesting having bought my (my wife's) first ever car from a dealer last week. Especially as a seasoned Ebayer/Sheder myself.

Fairly good experience with them and got the car we (she) wanted at a fairly good price. Pretty good trade in made it for us.

Interesting reading purchasers on here moaning about being sold extras. We had a whole list offered, if you don't want them it's remarkably easy to say no! hehe

Ironically enough the only thing that nearly scuppered it was the Scouse salesmens jokes! He didn't quite pick up on my wife's Manc accent quick enough!

An order now gets you one in March.

The new FFRR bun-fight will be amusing. We're quoting 2014 Q3 for delivery now.
Those silly lead times always come crashing down who folk are asked to cash up though.
We're holding 86 sizeable deposits.
With such a long lead time, how does it work with those buying with finance or PCP's? Finance can't be sorted, so do they have to put down a non-refundable deposit?

Our commercial guy is a very straight talking northerner and said similar to someone a few weeks ago.

The customer then said 'I think you're a liar, you can do the discount' to which my colleague stood up, said 'we're done here, leave, now' and frog marched him out the door rofl

We were all cringing but our SM and Sales Director were howling with laughter.
I've kicked a few out, one was ripping into a new salesman I was mentoring, really rude. I got to the point where I'd had enough. I stood up, he did too (as people do, they mirror you), I started walking towards the door, he followed. As we got to the door he said "where are we going?" I replied "well you're leaving, we're going for a brew" and opened the door for him. The look on his face was priceless. He muttered all sorts of threats of calling Trading Standards (right, because they'll care) and MG Rover (as if they'd care, we were outperforming every other MGR dealership in the country).

IME very few FFRR's are funded unless you've got a 0% deal on.

Contrasts with Sport and D4 where over 70% are funded in some way.

I remember one of my sales guys having a conversation with a customer of the value of their part ex which was worth about £6k.

SM: So, how much are you hoping to get for your current car in part exchange?
C: Well, I was hoping for about £8,000.
SM: Mmmm, sorry to tell you this but your car is only worth £4,000.
C: You're taking the piss.
SM: You started it Sir.

Really??? Jesus that's mental.

I get annoyed if a lead time goes over 12 weeks tbh.

Different kettle of fish I suppose!
Probably a good job you didn't stick with Skoda in that case! Shortest lead time is currently 12-13 weeks for Octavia everything else is 14-16 weeks min, and about 20ish weeks for Yeti.

Always perplexed me, people are happy to wait 12 weeks for a sofa, which is wood and fabric but baulk at waiting 12 weeks for a car, why?

Excitement. They aren't thinking about wait lists, scheduling, manufacturing and shipping, they're thinking 'i want it nooooow', Violet Beauregarde style.

Partly the "I want it nooooow" factor, but also fuelled by the difference in PX value between today and three months hence, compounded to a degree by the fact we'll usually make a better offer on a deal for a stock vehicle today that's costing us daily stocking charges vs. a factory build slot.

Or the old ones are the best

C; Can you offer a discount
SM; Can you spell discount
C; D.I.S.C.O.U.N.T
SM; You missed the "F"
C; Theirs no "F" in discount
SM; Exactly

Or Customer: How much for my PX youu Insult me.
Salesman: If I wanted to insult you I would be far more creative.
(I've used this one)
