Some may slate us, but we need a thread! Be it advice, rants, the old man that just comes in for a chat, funny stories, awkward customers, awkward salesmen even!!
Every dealer knows the old man that just comes in for a chat, our one came in yesterday and had crashed his car, not his fault apparantly and told one of our sales girls that he would expect it of her, a woman, because according to him, they always crash!! Geniusly sexist!! He's also been in and insulted waiting service customers before with his old fashioned views, the comedy value of this guy is immense!
Anyway, I'm sure everyone will have something to give to this thread.............

I bought a car recently. They were all very nice people. Like they wanted my money, and wanted to do business with me. Odd...

I have a customer who is great, he hates everyone at the garage I work at except me. He is now on the 6th car that I have sold him. I have another chap who each time he comes in to service his current car ends up buying another!

I sold new and used Fords for 5 years and cant remember a day were I didn't laugh. We had a PA system that went out across the dealership. If a nice lady turned up we would ask the recpetionist to put a PA call out for 'Mr Ford to contact reception pease'. That was our que to go and have a blimp

A colleague of mine was a Ford salesman in the 80s - said Ford have a place in Cumbria that looks like an unassuming B&B but is a training centre where sales staff get taught the ways of Ford. He's probably the best salesperson I know but even he said that it was a "certain way" of selling that was employed (i.e. very high pressure). Not sure if it's the same these days.

Well Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents, and what a quiet and dire one for Toyota and Nissan in the south. However, the morning was fantastic, so its not all bad!
How are we all today!!? Talking of funny customers, ours is due in tomorrow, to talk about changing cars. So ive put his new car (he will buy it) next to my desk with his name on it! I love choosing the car for him!!

Ford don' treally have input into the sales techniques used - its normally down to the managment of the motor group. If he was a Ford salesman in the 80's and went training ask him if he know Les Nicol?

After 18 months away from car sales I really do miss the fun and banter. What I don't miss is the wage before a registration month, 6 day weeks and 10-12 hour days more often than not.

Oh Joy, thats next month then!! Our company is pretty nice to us really with the pre reg month pay! We get £10 kept behind for each unit every month, for our csi score, then get paid it the month before reg, so an extra 300-400 is a pleasant thing to have on the month before new regs!! The long days though, I consider myself lucky, here from 8-6 minimum, but its warm, comfy, and a nice place to be. My OH is a Nurse, cleaning peoples piss, bed baths, and general s te, 13 hour shifts, I know where I would rather be!

th85 said: What I don't miss is the wage before a registration month You are familiar with the concept of a savings account, I assume? Vital for a salesperson owing to the ebb and flow of income throughout the year. Spent 11 years selling cars for dealers and for myself, some days I miss it, most others I don't. Now I can actually enjoy cars as a hobby again. We know what most buyers think of us for the job we do, but don't worry - we also have people that are a pleasure to do business with and people we'd be happier not to. Just as anyone who deals with the general public does.

Yeah I am and was familiar with savings, still awful checking the wage packet though in Feb after depleting the savings over Christmas and New Year and hitting them again. In fairness in the last role I had with R+D Peugeot we also got the CSI money at similar times but wasn't a huge amount. With dealing with the general public it's down to what you make of it, enjoy the good, deal with the bad and have a laugh about it all later.

I've done two today both on finance with products, so 5 for the month so far.
I did 24 cars in December!!!
No nutters for me today, the new guy is getting them all. He's done a fair few free valuations today and has lots of people 'thinking about it'.

RE: the hours in the motor trade, i advertise on the web and my 'forecourt' is my website, thus i work from home.
Still a load of running about to do, but its a lifestyle choice not a job as far as i'm concerned. Loving it!
