Love this 911 nicest of the recent iterations I feel.
I think the 911 should stay, it's always a winner; people love it.
While I agree that Porsche could try making another car for people who don't like the 911 look. I'm not too sure where the car would fit in the range. Or what it would be. They have the Boxter and Cayman which are great, what would people want from Porsche? Another 80-100k model? Or a 100-150k 'proper' supercar?
I would definately like to see something mid-engined in the £150-200,000 bracket to take on the 458/MP4/Gallardo/SLS.I think the 911 should stay, it's always a winner; people love it.

Yeah, I like the 918, as it shows they can think outside of their 911 shaped box a bit.
The Panamera is just a big 4 door 911, and the Cayenne is too much like a VW Toe-rag with Porsche lights and grill etc bolted on.
I'd like to see Porsche do what Aston Martin did when the introduced the DB9, by orrering a new direction in design.
Ferrari have done it more recently, with the 458, the 599 and the FF all sharing Family looks, while being up to date and still "veru Ferrari".
Skater12, ignore the others. Looks like they are trying to wind you up... The Panamera is just a big 4 door 911, and the Cayenne is too much like a VW Toe-rag with Porsche lights and grill etc bolted on.

Really like the 991, especially in silver shown in the Porsche marketing release.
In real life next to the 997, they look quite a bit bigger - a few in Guildford Porsche if interested.
The 997 was designed as a convertible first which means they are very rigid and a proper open top sports car. If the 991 is even more rigid I doubt you'd notice any difference in ride quality going to the coupe.
Not sure the pictures taken at Detroit flatter the car and the choice of wheels aren't the best. A lovely car specced correctly.

Yawn - overweight, no roof and looks exactly like the old model - definitely not for me.
+1. Technically the GT-R killed off the 911 a long time ago. The 911 is living on its badge.Yorkshirepud said:
Looks lovely.
Back doesn't look as bulbous as the 996 or 997, maybe that's what the big crease does for it?
Interested to hear just how well that roof performs over a folding metal one.
Looks wise, 997 > 993 > 991 > 996 > others

Cab wouldn't be my choice but that is one seriously neat chop.
Saw my first 991 parked on the road in Guildford the other day. Seemed barely bigger than the 997, certainly not the difference some mags had led me to believe. That said, it was black and in the dark; might have made it seem smaller. Liked a lot but too many badges on the back - bit bling...

I'm all for evolution not revolution but it's the way they have abig launch and stir up a Press frenzy for a car that prety much looks the same as the last one. I know they have to generate sales but what's to look at?
Someone on the Dodge Charger thread described it as a non-event but any new 911 launch is as predictable as the sunrise.

All very nice, but how much does a reasonably Specd one cost!!!!!!!!!!!
A 911 S with a few toys for £100 odd, it is in my opinion no where near special enough to command that amount of my Wedge, especially not when compared to what it offers over the outgoing 911!
In my mind the 911 Carrera sits slightly above the M3s for driver appeal and just below for practicality. However with this price difference it makes an M3 look a bargain.
I will get shot down for this, but it also makes the Evora S look like reasonable value.

+1, spot on Mr beef, they have been making a killing on the price of a 911 for years, how do you think they had enough cash to almost buy VW?.put an M3 next to a 911 and real off all the expensive bits ( V8, carbon roof etc), it's the BM which has them...but if people will pay it, they will charge it...A 911 S with a few toys for £100 odd, it is in my opinion no where near special enough to command that amount of my Wedge, especially not when compared to what it offers over the outgoing 911!
