Confirmed. The museum has been purchased in full and then donated to the city of Trollhattan by....... SAAB AB.
So sorry to everyone here who thought they might have got a bit of a bargain but I think that's a bit of a happy ending. Which makes a change when it comes to Saab recently.

Not in my case. I was bidding on one of the incomplete 'not for show' cars. Wouldn't have made any real difference to the 'collection' if I'd got the one I wanted... ha, never mind! At least I don't have to rush to Sweden now.

Now I need to plan a road trip!

What's the best way? Car ferry to Bergen or somewhere? Or the long way round through Europe?

Great news. The 'Ur SAAB'is a work of genius.C&C have some great old Saabs at the moment, go for the 96 in rally trim and go for a good B road thrash to put a smile on your face. Remember 'quick' and 'fast' are not the same.

Excellent! Hoped that something like this would happen. Shame about the rest of the story :/ many car brands I'd miss less than SAAB.

28 million SKR. Which is about £2.8 million.

(or the price of a toolkit for a Gripen fighter. wink )

The only ferry going that way is Harwich ,Essex to Esbjerg ,Denmark .DFDS BTW.

Denmark isn't very big so you can get to Sweden in few hours.

I used this route in 2010 for a Swedish trip.

Ferry is VERY expensive £700 - £800 with a car.

The long way through Europe adds 600 miles + to the driving.

If anyone goes on this route stop in Gothenberg for the Volvo museum too,a good display.

Well that was a bit of fun! I find myself agreeing with everyone else though that the cars have ended up in the correct hands. Still, I'm a bit sad I didn't get my hands on that little silver 1966 Sonett II.

Anyone care to 'fess on their bids? I'll go first.

Car Ref: Descr. Bid
VM205 1966 Sonett II SEK25,000

Cheers,
Stu

PS: Thanks ClaesB for the offer of help. I'm sorry I can't take you up on it!

I did it going via the long route driving through all the countries up to Sweden. The ferry is far less interesting. I'd say it depends on how confident you are with your car. My 99t16 got all the way there without a brake-down but did pop a rear shock mount through a rusty top mounting. On the way back it overheated when we got stuck in traffic on the autobahn. The shock wasn't a major problem. The worst thing was Phil's car breaking down in Germany with failed alternator brushes. Luckily there was a Bosch shop about a mile away which stocked a replacement brush pack. We were on our way in no time. It took us two days. The only recommendation I would have to anyone doing it again is to make sure you plan your overnight stop. We didn't and ended up dancing around the border between Germany and Denmark looking for a hotel which was open and had vacancies. In the end we had to sleep in the cars.

I'd say even if doing less driving and going by ferry you'd still need to prepare properly as it's still a lot of mileage.
