Depressing, isn't it?
Hopefully some will be sufficiently incenced that they vote with their feet and go away. Wishful thinking?
Anyway... back on Pistonheads where "speed matters": Magnificent car! More please.

Worth noting that even that little thing does more than the legal limit too. Based on this thread half the members on here will want to have them banned for being too fast too.

A very elegant analysis of the legal position.
Driver is in some serious trouble here, especially on "warnings from passengers" - "STOP", "THAT'S ENOUGH", "NUTTER", "I HAVE NO SEATBELT".

Not sure what this huge squealing to which you're referring is as I couldn't hear much above the V12 and the straight-cut gears...
When he braked and when he pulled it up you could hear the brakes make a lot of noise. I'm guessing on the road those race brake discs were very cool and probably not at optimum temp very often. It was hardly an intrusive noise though and not evident when accelerating.

IMO, there are a lot of people posting on here quite forgetting that this is a very PUBLIC forum, available for all to 'inspect'.
To those people, PLEASE consider before you post in future that you are shaping the future of any videos on public roads that any public forum might think of organising and posting for your enjoyment.
I for one hope that real-world 'road videos', of course with all due consideration to road safety, won't stop being made.
Otherwise we'll all only have the US-style test track and bimbling in traffic videos to watch
I've been asking "what part of posting this video for all to see is a good idea?" all day To those people, PLEASE consider before you post in future that you are shaping the future of any videos on public roads that any public forum might think of organising and posting for your enjoyment.

Very poor judgement to post it on the main intro page of a public forum imho. there are enough Anti-car muppets out there without giving them more Ammo.
As for the content of the vid, I couldn't give a rats arse what they were doing.

Exactly, videos of cars being caned on track do nothing for me as it's largely irrelevant, I want to know what they're like on the road. But nor do I wish to see supercars being driven like they're in a ROSPA/BRAKE/IAM infomercial. As an aside, does anyone remember Tiff Needell's original road test report of the F1 for Top Gear that was screened on BBC many years ago? I still have the VHS of it and it's on YouTube. There's a part where he's just bimbling around Waitrose, gets out of town on the way to the test track (at Goodwood IIRC) and just nails it in what I presume was second or third gear. There aren't many things that shut him up during a road test, but I'm glad that did.
ETA link to the video to which I'm referring: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7Azl-drqMk
The rate at which the trees were going by to start with and how they sped up, accompanied by *that* glorious sound has stayed with me ever since and seared the F1 deep into my subconscious as the best sounding road car there is - or likely ever will be. Nobody was harmed in the making of that video either and that was prime time viewing for millions on the BBC.

Well there you go. As I said earlier when people were asking why it had taken 18 months for this video to appear, I said at the time Chris must have thought the video was a little too risqué for public viewing, time obviously had dimed that idea but the this thread seems to have brought back the potential ramifications to those involved and therefore it has been pulled. Not really surprising is it?

I remember that video. I have no problem with that one, or many other public road videos or exceeding arbitrary speed limits in general. I just thought the bloke in the video could have perhaps picked a better location to go for a multi car overtake and for giving it a quick spurt in 2nd/3rd. Maybe I'm wrong and it was a lot safer than it looked. As an aside, does anyone remember Tiff Needell's original road test report of the F1 for Top Gear that was screened on BBC many years ago? I do think it's a poor reflection on PH that so many people are deriding anyone who thinks the video was a bit dodgy as anti speed, hand wringing simpletons. I suspect if the car in question had been slightly less iconic, a chavved up Saxo say, the number of people leaping to the drivers defence would have been considerably less.

You're absolutely right. Trying to overtake anything in a chavved up Saxo is derisible folly.Gruber said:

The question must be asked- do the Management of Haymarket know how this site is being run and do they condone the editorial standards being displayed at present?
The video was produced by the youtube channel Drive. If Haymarket were willing to stand by the video, do you think it would have been removed?
The removal is an admission that it was wrong.
OK chaps, I think that all that has been said on the subject has been said.
For the record, the video was removed by Drive, and not at our insistence (and 10PS, yes the management know how the website is run, and yes we the management are aware of our current editorial strategy ) so there seems to me to be little point in letting this thread run on endlessly now that this has happened.
Let's move on, shall we?
